Haeundae date café: Choty latte, salt bread & financier, Low & Sweet

Low & Sweet Roastery is a café with a lovely atmosphere right at the entrance to Haeridan-gil in Haeundae. It's always packed whenever I walk past, so I kept missing it, but I finally made it in :)

When I look for a nice café in Busan, I always have the same dilemma: if only the coffee is good, I'm disappointed, and if only the desserts are good, I'm disappointed too! I never found a place that satisfied me on both, so I couldn't settle on one spot. Then I found Low & Sweet Roastery, where the coffee, desserts and atmosphere all won me over, so I'm bringing you a detailed review :)

The café is an easy walk from Haeundae Station, so it's convenient to reach and an easy stop on a date. It's also a good place to rest during a Busan trip, and just right for relaxing over a cup of coffee.

Is the atmosphere at Low & Sweet Roastery good for a date?

Even early in the day there were plenty of customers, and it had the feel of a cozy café that's great for a Haeundae date. The moment I walked in, I felt a warm, comfortable mood.

The wood-toned interior and soft lighting felt relaxing, and the tables are spaced well enough that chatting is no problem :) It isn't noisy, so it works for couples and was just as satisfying for gossiping with friends.

In-house roasted beans and desserts for ₩3,000–4,000

Low & Sweet Roastery uses beans it roasts itself, so coffee lovers come here a lot. With coffee, other drinks and desserts all on offer, it's also easy to put together good combinations.

From salt bread to financiers and cookies, the desserts are made the same day and sold at friendly prices of ₩3,000–4,000s, perfect for an after-meal treat. This time I ordered a salt bread and a financier with my coffee.

What does the salt bread (₩3,400) taste like?

You put the salt bread and financier on a plate next to the counter, pay, and carry them straight to your seat. I liked how quick that is.

At ₩3,400 the salt bread is reasonably priced, crisp outside and moist inside, with a rich buttery flavor. I was already full but kept reaching for more.

The saltiness is just right too, so it pairs well with a coffee that has some acidity, and the crisp-outside, soft-inside texture made it fun to eat. I thought it would be even better eaten warm.

Is the chocolate financier (₩3,400) very sweet?

The chocolate financier was also ₩3,400, like the salt bread. Its chocolate flavor is rich and it went so well with the coffee that it vanished in no time!

It isn't one of those financiers that are just sweet: you get the sweetness of chocolate along with the nutty richness of the financier, so one disappeared quickly. It isn't too sweet, and the hardened chocolate on the outside is JMT (Korean slang for "insanely delicious"). If you like desserts, I'd recommend ordering one :)

Is the Choty latte okay for people who can't drink coffee?

Next up was the Choty latte. It isn't strongly acidic, so even people who don't handle coffee well can enjoy it,

and a gentle aroma lingers along with the acidity. It's a latte from a real bean specialist, nice to drink with desserts.

The bittersweet acidity of the espresso blends with the smooth, nutty milk, and it's surprisingly filling, practically a diet drink! The aroma is so good that I kept sipping it!

What does the homemade lemonade taste like?

And the last thing I ordered: the homemade lemonade! Maybe thanks to the lemon cheong (lemon preserved in sugar) that tastes truly homemade, it has the fresh brightness of lemon rather than artificial sweetness,

and it was perfect for a hot day. Sweet, sour and refreshing, it went well with the desserts too!

When you take a sip between bites of sweet dessert, it cleans up your mouth, so I'd order it again next time.

Is Low & Sweet Roastery worth going back to?

Above all, true to a Busan roastery café that also supplies beans, Low & Sweet Roastery has really good coffee quality. The bean aroma is clean and every drink was well made, so if you're looking for a date-friendly café in Busan's Haeridan-gil, it's worth stopping by :)
