Hongdae Korean restaurant for a late post-show dinner: Baengni Gomtang

Baengni Gomtang (백리곰탕) is a Korean restaurant serving gomtang (beef bone soup) and yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef rice bowl), in an alley off Gyeongui Line Book Street near Hongik Univ. Station Exit 7 in Hongdae, Seoul. After a show in Hongdae, the writer shared a soy-sauce yukhoe bibimbap (13,000 won) and a Hanwoo gomtang (12,000 won) for a late dinner, with a bottle of makgeolli on the side. Baengni Gomtang is worth a visit when you want a clean, filling Hongdae meal instead of something heavily seasoned.

Goyang BBQ twice in one day: 400g black pork raw ribs, Neopttakjip

Neopttakjip Samsong Branch is a black pork raw rib restaurant near Exit 3 of Samsong Station in Goyang, Gyeonggi, a short hop from Starfield Goyang. After eating meat at lunch on Husband Day, the writer came back for dinner and ordered 400g of black pork raw ribs, dipping each piece in sesame oil, perilla powder and salt and pairing them with pickled peppers, garlic scape relish and grilled aged kimchi, with the floor-to-ceiling windows thrown open for an outdoor-tent feel. The ramyeon (instant noodle soup) ordered at the end was the most memorable dish of the night.
