Euljiro Korean restaurant for parents: brassware pork tray at Baekok

In short

Baekok Euljiro is a Korean restaurant on the second basement floor of a building near Euljiro 1-ga Station (Euljiro-ipgu) in Jung-gu, Seoul. At Baekok Euljiro the blogger ordered the signature Donbok Tray, with back ribs, pork cheek, pork belly and pork jowl served in a clear broth, then had mushrooms and tofu added to the remaining broth for a shabu-shabu-style finish. Thanks to the neat brassware table setting and deep broth, Baekok Euljiro is a good choice for a meal with parents or a group gathering.

Where is Baekok Euljiro (백옥 을지로입구점)?

Baekok Euljiro is a Korean restaurant on the second basement floor of a building in Jung-gu, Seoul. It has a clean, modern Korean interior, takes group gatherings and company dinners, and the presentation of the food is lovely. 🍲 This is my visit to Baekok, a tidy, satisfying meal in the middle of the city.

When the temperature swings are big and your energy drops, warm, hearty Korean food is the first thing that comes to mind, right? 🌿 Finding a proper Korean restaurant in Euljiro, which is usually packed with office workers, is harder than you'd think. Today I'm sharing a special meal at Baekok, a Korean restaurant near Euljiro 1-ga Station that a friend strongly recommended.

Sitting like an oasis among the office towers, Baekok gave off a neat, composed feeling right from the entrance. I got the impression it wins you over with tidiness rather than flash, and to tell you the conclusion first, it really made me feel like I was being treated as a valued guest.

What is the atmosphere like at Baekok Euljiro?

The restaurant is an upscale, private-feeling space that blends the warmth of wood tones with a modern touch. 🛋️ It was nothing like the rustic image you usually get from a Euljiro gomtang (beef or pork bone soup) place. Tables are spaced generously and everything was very clean, so it would work well for an important business meeting or for bringing your parents.

Seeing the tableware neatly set under soft lighting got my expectations up before any food arrived.

The skilled, friendly service kept me comfortable all through the meal, which was another big plus for Baekok.

What is the Donbok Tray at Baekok?

The Donbok Tray (돈복쟁반) is Baekok's signature, called the ultimate stamina dish, and it's what we ordered. 🥘 The moment it landed on the table, we gasped without meaning to. The meat, neatly arranged in a big brass bowl (놋그릇), looked like a work of art.

It combines several cuts of thinly sliced pork with fresh vegetables. A clear, deep broth is spread shallowly under the meat, so everything stays moist and warm to the very end.

Seeing the garnishes placed so carefully on top, you can feel the care of whoever cooked it. At this quality, I can confidently say it stands out among Korean restaurants near Euljiro 1-ga Station.

How do the meat and broth of the Donbok Tray taste?

The meat was clean, mild and tender, with no gamey smell at all. I dipped a piece in the dedicated sauce and the soft texture filled my mouth. 🥩 Pork rib, cheek, belly, from the chewy cuts to the tender ones!

Look at how silky that pork jowl is! It's good dipped in the sauce, and good with the crown daisy (ssukgat) that comes in the tray too~ The fat-to-lean ratio is perfect, so it's not greasy at all, and the nutty flavor builds the more you chew.

A shabu-shabu finish with mushrooms and tofu

Once you've eaten a fair amount of meat, the staff add the mushrooms and tofu that were set out at the start and turn it into a shabu-shabu-style hot pot. A whole new dish appears in a flash!

Wrapping the meat with the vegetables that went in added a crunchy texture too, and the balance of flavors was excellent.

But the real showstopper was the broth. Befitting a place also famous for Euljiro gomtang, Baekok's broth had exceptional depth. It isn't harsh, yet the savory umami lingers in your mouth, and every sip felt like warmth reaching deep inside my body.

Who should you go to Baekok Euljiro with?

Baekok Euljiro is a gem of Euljiro that you'll want to visit with someone dear. Many people cut back on eating out these days for their health, but Baekok's food brings out the natural taste of the ingredients rather than relying on seasoning punch, and my stomach felt very comfortable afterward. 🌿

The side dishes were nicely fermented and paired perfectly with the mild Donbok Tray. Baekok was more than a place to fill your stomach; healthy food gave me back some energy for daily life. 🏃‍♂️💨 A deeply flavored Donbok Tray in a stylish space seems like an ideal choice for year-end gatherings or to celebrate a special day.
