Guro seafood pub with live shrimp and fried shrimp heads: Neomsiljip

In short

Neomsiljip (넘실집) is a seafood pub on the Kkalkkal-geori (깔깔거리) side of Guro Digital Complex Station in Guro, Seoul. At Neomsiljip, the writer ate live shrimp so fresh their tails were still flicking, followed by fried shrimp heads, a spicy fish stew from a review event with a bowl of rice, and draft beer as good as one once enjoyed in Japan. Verdict: Neomsiljip is a Guro Digital Complex pub worth returning to whenever live shrimp and draft beer are on your mind.

I went to Neomsiljip (넘실집) in Gudi with my partner, Bamtol-ssi 🤍🤍🤍 What we went for that day: raw shrimp! I like seafood in general, so I showed up excited. This time we got the full run, from how fresh the shrimp was to the fried heads and the spicy fish stew >.<

Where is Neomsiljip and what is the atmosphere like?

Neomsiljip is a seafood pub in the Kkalggal-georí area near Guro Digital Complex Station. It's a good place to go in Gudi in the evening when you want tasty seafood with a drink.

The atmosphere is great and there are even two outdoor tables~ perfect for visiting now while the weather is nice!!! I booked through Naver Reservation, and they put my name on the table and gave us a good spot. I was so touched by that kind of thoughtful detail, I'm tearing up ㅠㅠ

There are so many kinds of raw fish too, so I'm definitely coming back in yellowtail season!! heh. But today was the day I'd been waiting for to demolish the live shrimp!!!!!!

How fresh is the live shrimp at Neomsiljip?

The live shrimp at Neomsiljip was so fresh that you could feel the tails wiggling. It was the dish I was looking forward to most that day, and the freshness was even more impressive than I'd hoped.

Freshness matters a lot with seafood, right? With something like live shrimp, where the ingredient itself is everything, you're already excited before you eat. That day the freshness was obvious from the way the shrimp moved, which made it even more satisfying.

After the raw shrimp, fried shrimp heads

If you've had raw shrimp at Neomsiljip, you can't skip the fried shrimp heads! We enjoyed those that day too. After eating the shrimp bodies, getting the heads as tempura-style fry let us enjoy another side of the shrimp in a single meal.

Draft beer at Neomsiljip reminded me of Japan

The draft beer at Neomsiljip was seriously, so so good!!!!! If the raw shrimp was the star of the meal, the draft beer was the hidden bonus I have to mention separately.... How good? It reminded me of a legendary draft beer I had in Japan!

There was one draft beer on a trip to Japan that stood out as especially delicious, and drinking this one that day brought back that feeling. Beer tastes different to everyone, but for me it was that memorable a glass.

We came for a nice dinner with Bamtol-ssi and then found a draft beer we loved, which made it even better. We're real draft beer lovers ㅠㅠ Of course I want to go back for the raw shrimp, but I also want that beer again, so a return visit is definitely happening.

Review event spicy fish stew, finished with rice

At Neomsiljip we also received a spicy fish stew (maeuntang) through a review event that day. Adding a warm, brothy dish after the raw shrimp made the meal much richer. The stew was especially good with steamed rice ㅠㅠ And surprisingly it turned out to be an amazing side dish for drinking ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

Pairing the spicy, hearty broth with rice felt like a filling way to close out the meal. After enjoying seafood dishes, ending with soup and rice rounded out the meal nicely.

Since it came from a review event, you might not expect much, but we even added extra rice and enjoyed it a lot. With the raw shrimp and fried heads plus the stew, it was a really full dinner.

Would I go back to Neomsiljip in Gudi for shrimp?

This visit to Neomsiljip was really satisfying from the raw shrimp to the stew..ㅠㅠㅠ The live shrimp, so fresh you could feel the tails wiggling, was the most memorable, and the fried shrimp heads were tasty too. The stew from the review event was even more filling and delicious with rice.

And the draft beer too! It was so good it reminded me of that legendary beer in Japan, which made the evening with the food even better... Most of all, I'm glad I got to eat good food and have a fun time with Bamtol-ssi.

It's a place I'd return to on days I crave raw shrimp, and on days I want good draft beer... Also, I'm absolutely coming back in yellowtail season ㅠㅠㅠ Neomsiljip in Gudi, I love you ㅠ!!!
