Medium gamjatang for two near Cheonho Station: Boseung Hoegwan

In short

Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch is a 24-hour gukbap (Korean rice-and-soup) restaurant in Gangdong, Seoul, right in front of Cheonho Station Exit 3. Instead of the usual sundaeguk, the writer ordered the medium gamjatang (pork bone and potato stew) at 32,000 won and shared it between two people with just one extra bowl of rice, praising the generous, tender meat on the bones and the spicy, deeply savoury broth. Boseung Hoegwan is not a gamjatang specialist, but this is a dish worth ordering again.

Gamjatang table setting at Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch

Hi, this is Neojinseu, a nurse blogger. Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch is a place I stop by often when I'm craving hot soup near Cheonho Station. I usually order gukbap (soup with rice) here, but this time I somehow felt like something different, so I ordered gamjatang instead.

Honestly, Boseung Hoegwan is known mostly for sundae-gukbap (blood sausage soup) or suyuk-gukbap (boiled pork soup), so at first I wondered, 'It's not even a gamjatang specialist restaurant, will this be okay?' But one bite in, I realized I'd worried for nothing haha! It was so satisfying I'd honestly consider coming back specifically for gamjatang next time.

Where is Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch, and is there parking?

Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch is about 88m from Cheonho Station Exit 3, so it's really easy to get to. Walk about 80m straight out of Exit 3 and you'll find it right away, and there's a bus stop nearby too, so it's convenient by public transit.

  • Address: 654 Olympic-ro, 1st floor, unit 1, Gangdong-gu, Seoul, South Korea
  • Hours: Open 24 hours every day

There's also ground-level and mechanical parking behind the building. Coming from Cheonho Station Exit 3, pass Lotteria and enter the passage under the Aladin used bookstore sign to reach the rear parking lot. And since it's open 24 hours, it's a great spot for a bowl of hot soup late at night or early in the morning.

It's easy to grab a simple meal alone here, and it also worked well for the two of us sharing one pot of gamjatang. Since it's right by Cheonho Station, plenty of people come by for meals, and it's a place you can visit without hesitation whenever you're craving something hot and spicy.

Beyond gukbap: what else is on the Boseung Hoegwan menu

Boseung Hoegwan has a strong image as a place mainly for gukbap dishes like sundae-gukbap or suyuk-gukbap,

but they also have drinking-table dishes and group dishes like gamjatang. Since I've mostly ordered gukbap on past visits, this gamjatang was essentially new territory for me.

Diced radish kimchi side dish

The basic side dishes were napa cabbage kimchi and diced radish kimchi. Personally, if the kimchi at a gukbap or gamjatang place is too sour I don't reach for it much, but here neither the cabbage kimchi nor the radish kimchi was strongly sour, so they paired well with the gamjatang.

Medium gamjatang, 32,000 won: how far it goes for two and how it tastes

A pot of medium gamjatang at Boseung Hoegwan

This time we ordered the medium gamjatang. Can you see the portion?! It looked genuinely generous for two people right from the moment it arrived.

As it bubbled away, I tried the broth first — it was spicy and the flavor was quite rich. It wasn't just heat; there was that deep, savory gamjatang character to it too, so my spoon kept going back in.

What I liked most, though, was the meat. There was way more meat on the bones than I expected, and it was cooked through so thoroughly it was tender rather than tough.

It was easy to pick the meat off the bone with chopsticks, and eating it soaked in that rich broth together with the kimchi was genuinely delicious.

There was plenty of other stuff in the pot too, so much that I started wondering, 'Was this always a gamjatang restaurant?' My earlier worry that a non-specialist place wouldn't do it well turned out to be pointless haha.

The two of us ate the medium gamjatang and it was so generous that even ordering just one bowl of rice to split between us left us really full. If you're visiting as two, it might be worth ordering the rice or extra noodles a bit at a time based on your appetite rather than adding a lot upfront. At ₩32,000 for this much meat and this much stuff in the pot, the value for money was really good!

Final verdict on gamjatang at Boseung Hoegwan

Nearly empty gamjatang pot

Doing the dishes again today... I've usually visited Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch for gukbap, but this visit taught me it's also a great spot for gamjatang. The combination of generous, tender meat and that rich, spicy broth was the most satisfying part.

Table at Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch after finishing the meal

One medium gamjatang was enough to fill up two people pretty well, so I'd recommend it to anyone near Cheonho Station looking for a hearty dinner. It's open 24 hours, which makes it great for a late meal, and also a good option the morning after drinking near Cheonho Station when you're craving spicy hangover soup or gamjatang.

Next time I'll probably be torn between gukbap and gamjatang, but I'd definitely order the gamjatang again. If you're near Cheonho Station looking for a hearty gamjatang or a good hangover soup, give Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch a try~!
