Gangchang, Daegu Korean restaurant: two bowls wiped clean at Hyangtaek

Hyangtaek Seongseo Keimyung University Branch (향택 성서계명대점) is a Korean rice bowl restaurant near Gangchang Station in Dalseo, Daegu, in the alley across from the main gate of Keimyung University's Seongseo campus. The signature mackerel gondre rice (rice with Korean thistle) and the new beef bulgogi bowl arrived about 10 minutes after ordering, and thanks to the gopchang gim and bibim jeotgal pairing and the generous portion of meat, not a single grain was left. For something more interesting than an ordinary meal near Keimyung University, Hyangtaek Seongseo Keimyung University Branch is worth recommending.

Daegu Vietnamese restaurant, native chef's trotter rice: Raichen

Raichen Chilgok Branch is a Vietnamese restaurant in Chilgok 3-jigu, Buk-gu, Daegu, behind Homeplus, where a Vietnamese chef reportedly cooks every dish. The writer, who had only ever eaten hot pho, tried cold pho for the first time at Raichen Chilgok Branch and also ordered pork trotter rice and banh xeo (Vietnamese crispy pancake). The pork trotter rice, a first for the writer, beat expectations and became the dish worth going back to Raichen for.

Ttukbang (뚝방) is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Goseong-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu, specialising in 1++ pork neck. The writer ordered 2 servings of pork belly and 1 of pork neck, pre-grilled and then cooked to the end by the owner and staff, alongside a freshly fried chive pancake side dish, spicy doenjang stew and kimchi mari guksu (noodles in cold kimchi broth). Ttukbang changed the writer's view that pork neck is dry, making it worth a stop for a team dinner or a good BBQ meal in Goseong-dong.
