Eonyang Dak Kalguksu, the famous restaurant from Eonyang, has opened a branch near Tongdosa!! I'd only ever tried their kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) and dak gomtang before, but I heard this Tongdosa branch also has a summer chogye milmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles in chicken broth) and jjimdak (braised chicken), so since I was in the area, I visited without hesitation!!

Parking and atmosphere: a private lot and a big, spacious interior

There's a wide parking lot right behind the building! Park easily and head on in~

The original Eonyang location is on the small side, but this Tongdosa branch surprised me first with how large and spacious it is~

The menu and photos are posted on the wall, and you order by calling out to staff~ I didn't see chogye milmyeon listed on the wall and wondered if they'd stopped serving it, but the guy across from me was eating one, so I ordered chogye naengmilmyeon right away

Self-serve side dish bar and spicy kimchi

Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch also has a self-serve side dish bar so you can help yourself to more.

Kimchi comes as a standard side dish, and I grabbed onion and pickled radish from the self-serve corner.

Speaking of Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch, the spicy kimchi is a real highlight. There's a milder version too, and even the "less spicy" one still has some kick, but it's spicy in a way that just makes it taste better 👍

Thin, crisp pickled radish, plus onion and ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste) — all really good~

Eonyang dak gomtang, ₩10,000 — half a chicken plus rice

Dak gomtang with half a chicken in a rich broth. The clean yet deep broth flavor is top-notch!! Eonyang Dak Kalguksu's own chewy, non-floury noodles are great too, but for the dak gomtang, it's rice, not noodles, that hits the spot — right up my alley. A menu perfect for a day when the wind suddenly turns cool. The kalguksu here is great too, but I'd recommend the dak gomtang as well!!

The chicken is cooked so tender the bones just pop off, and underneath is rice, making this Tongdosa restaurant a filling, healthy meal — "Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch"

Plenty of tender meat too! Even better topped with the spicy kimchi~

I've had the chicken kalguksu many times before, so I was curious about a new menu item and ordered the chogye naengmilmyeon. It arrived in an almost wash-basin-sized portion, generously piled with a cold noodle broth, crunchy radish kimchi, cucumber, and plenty of tender chicken — the kind of dish anyone would love. It slid down effortlessly, slurp after slurp. It tasted exactly as good as I'd hoped, which made it even better. Being summer, lots of other diners were ordering the chogye naengmilmyeon too. The kalguksu and dak gomtang are delicious, but this cool, refreshing chogye naengmilmyeon is a total standout in summer.

I'd be so disappointed if mandu weren't on the side~~ True to their name, they're chewy and packed full of filling. Clean and savory — even after finishing a whole bowl of chogye naengmilmyeon and being full, I still cleared the plate of chewy mandu.

In summary

I went for a proper meal, but this Tongdosa-area restaurant also had plenty of customers who clearly knew their way around drinking snacks. A private lot on-site, a spacious and comfortable interior, the same great taste as the original branch, and friendly service.
