Yangsan Korean restaurant for spicy marinated crab: Deodo Gejang
In short
Deodo Gejang is a Korean restaurant in Habuk-myeon, Yangsan, serving Jeju yellow crab jang and assorted marinated seafood. We had the two-person assorted jang nutritious pot rice set with our baby and ordered the spicy yellow crab to take home. Deodo Gejang is a generous, family-friendly spot for a crab feast.

Deodo Gejang in Yangsan with Our Baby
Today, let's go have some proper rice-stealing food 🦀
My husband, baby, and I went to Deodo Gejang in Yangsan for dinner, with a little drive thrown in too.

We had a little time before our reservation, so we stopped by nearby Sunji Café first. The weather was so bright and sunny that the outdoor seating looked lovely, and there were lots of families there too ☀️ After enjoying a little breather at the café, we headed to Deodo Gejang for our reservation.

Plenty of Parking and a High Chair
The first thing I noticed on arriving at Deodo Gejang was the large parking lot. There was plenty of space, so it looked convenient for families visiting by car.

Deodo Gejang specializes in Jeju yellow crab jang and assorted jang, or seafood marinated in soy sauce or seasoning, so we ordered the two-person assorted jang nutritious pot rice set. Every member of staff was so kind from beginning to end, which made for a really pleasant meal. Since we were visiting with our baby, they promptly set up a high chair too, and I especially appreciated that 👶🏻 Those thoughtful details are quietly important when choosing somewhere for a family meal, aren't they?

What's in the Assorted Jang Pot Rice Set
After a short wait, a generous full table spread arrived. The assorted jang nutritious pot rice set included marinated blue crab, soy-marinated yellow crab, spicy yellow crab, marinated octopus, marinated abalone, and soy-marinated peeled shrimp. There were also lots of side dishes, including grilled bulgogi-style pork, blue crab stew, grilled fish, braised fried tofu, and kimchi pancake, so the table was practically full 😋
The pot rice was cooked to order, so it arrived piping hot. With mushrooms, sweet pumpkin, and ginkgo nuts mixed in, it felt like a much healthier meal than my usual rice. After serving the rice, we could enjoy nurungji (crispy scorched rice) as well, which made the finish just as satisfying.

The Fun of Choosing from Several Jang Dishes
Then we put on the plastic gloves they gave us and properly got into the crab 🦀 The blue crab was packed with meat, making it fun to pick apart, and dipping the meat lightly into the soy sauce pooling in the dish added even more savory flavor. The soy-marinated yellow crab had a rich soy aroma and tender meat, so it was easy to eat. The marinated octopus, abalone, and soy-marinated peeled shrimp also kept drawing me back one by one with rice. With such a variety, it was fun to choose different flavors rather than eating just one type of marinated crab.

Spicy Yellow Crab We Even Took Home
Personally, the spicy yellow crab was what stayed with me most. I loved the seasoning so much that I even ordered some to take away after our meal 😂 Mixing the sauce into rice and wrapping it in dol gim (toasted seaweed) was such a delicious combination too. I guess people don't call marinated crab a rice thief for nothing.
At the end, I scraped up the remaining nurungji in the pot rice and drank it warm. It felt like it neatly refreshed my mouth after all the rich seasoning and different dishes. I was happy with the food on this visit, but more than anything, the kindness of the staff stayed with me. Overall, it felt like a place that suits family visits really well.
We stopped at Sunji Café before our meal, but they say you can get 10% off when you visit Sunji Café after eating at Deodo Gejang. It seems like a great way to combine a meal and café stop into one outing ☕️ If you're planning a trip to Yangsan or Tongdosa Temple and looking for a restaurant recommendation near Tongdosa, this is worth a stop! I think my parents would especially enjoy it, so next time I'd like to come back with them 💛
