Mapo wine bar with sofa seats and red wine: Gipeun Sup

A basement wine bar a short walk from Hapjeong Station

Gipeun Sup (깊은숲) was our second stop of the night with a friend! It is about a five-minute walk from Hapjeong Station, so it was easy to find.

Head down these stairs and you'll find the bar downstairs!

A jazz-bar-like interior for quiet conversation

To me, the interior had a bit of a jazz-bar feel! There was a piano in the middle, with videos projected on a screen. When we went in, there were lots of couples there that day! There was also a tucked-away sofa spot where you could just flop down, so it seemed great for staying a while and drinking slowly.

Even the bar seats were comfortably set up with chairs that had backrests! It also felt like a nice place to come alone for a quick drink. By the kitchen, everything from whiskey onward was displayed!

Overall, there were lots of chairs with backrests and sofa seats, so it was easy to sit comfortably and talk for a long time! The music was not too loud either, which made it nice for a quiet conversation :) The soft lighting gave it a lovely atmosphere, and I thought it would be great for a date too! It would work well for a blind date as well, haha. I came with a friend, and it was also great for having a quiet chat~

An easy-to-choose menu, from wine to cocktails

Here is the Gipeun Sup menu! There were wine snacks such as Boinne seafood cream tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), grilled Camembert, and caprese, plus beer snacks like sausage and fries! Wine started in the 30,000-won range, so the lineup felt reasonably priced and easy to enjoy without pressure :) Cocktails also started at 10,000 won, which felt cheaper than at other places! They also sell whiskey and beer, so it is an easy place to visit whatever you feel like drinking~

We ordered the grilled Camembert for 15,000 won and red wine (I don't know its name..) for 37,000 won! We were craving wine that day, so that is what we got, but I think it would be nice to come back for sausage and a simple beer too!

Pretzels came out as the complimentary snack. They were actually nice to casually pick at bit by bit too, haha.

When the wine came out, the owner poured it from opening the bottle through our first glass~! And the owner was incredibly kind! That meant we could drink and leave feeling happy :)

A great pairing of affordable wine and grilled Camembert

When wine is very cheap, even though I am not a wine expert..! It can taste really alcoholic and overly astringent, I guess..? Anyway, there are plenty of wines that do not taste great even to a non-expert like me, but I remember this one being really delicious despite the price! The menu clearly listed things like sweetness and body, so it was easy to choose too!

Isn't the grilled Camembert unbelievably generous for the price...? To be honest, I was a little tipsy from the wine, but I remember the cheese being seriously delicious! It also came with plenty of nuts, and the honey was sweet... just the best combination! The seats were comfortable, the snacks were tasty, and the owner was kind, so my friend and I happily chatted away for a long time before leaving!
