Post-workout seokgalbi for two at a Beomeo-dong Daegu restaurant

In short

Banwoldang Buja Sikdang Suseong Branch is a fire-grilled Korean restaurant on Beomeocheon-ro in Suseong-gu, Daegu. After a weekend morning workout, a couple ordered buja seokgalbi (grilled short rib) for two, ate it with the onion and enoki mushrooms tucked under the shredded scallion, and added cheonggukjang (fermented soybean paste stew) and the unlimited ssam vegetable self-serve bar. The stone-plate seokgalbi arrives fully cooked, so there is no waiting — a filling protein-packed meal straight after exercise.

After a solid workout session with my husband on Saturday morning, my stomach started growling like crazy haha. I wanted a hearty meal to properly refuel with protein, so I searched for good Korean restaurants in Suseong-gu! One of my absolute favorite dishes, seokgalbi (grilled rib-eye galbi), immediately caught my eye, so I headed straight there without a second thought.

Today I'm introducing Banwoldang Buja Sikdang Suseong Branch! The original location is already famous, so my expectations were sky-high haha.

There was a storyboard by the entrance telling the history of the place. Apparently the son now runs it alongside his mother, carrying on her cooking, which made it feel even more heartfelt.

Where do you park on Beomeocheon-ro?

Banwoldang Buja Sikdang Suseong Branch has street public parking right along the line in front of the restaurant on Beomeocheon-ro, so there was nothing to worry about even bringing a car. After eating, just take your receipt and hand it to the parking attendant.

Parking is always the biggest worry when driving around, but here there was no need to stress! We got lucky and a spot opened up right away, so parking was a breeze.

Clean exterior of Banwoldang Buja Sikdang Suseong Branch

You can tell how clean the exterior looks, right? True to a fire-grilling specialty restaurant, a subtle smoky aroma drifted from the entrance and instantly got my appetite going.

Inside Banwoldang Buja Sikdang and how the T-order kiosk works

Inside Banwoldang Buja Sikdang Suseong Branch, every table has a T-order kiosk, so you can order right from your seat without calling a staff member. Even on a Saturday morning, it was already buzzing with customers.

A clean atmosphere and a convenient ordering system

Luckily, a table that had just been cleared was open in the back, so we sat right down with no wait.

We decided on my favorite dish, buja seokgalbi for two! My husband likes spicy food, but he went along with my pick today haha.

What else is on the menu besides seokgalbi?

The wall menu at Banwoldang Buja Sikdang Suseong Branch lists fire-grilled squid and pork stir-fry alongside seokgalbi. Every dish requires an order for 2 or more, and black rice is separate, but the fact that cheonggukjang stew comes included as standard is amazing!

The takeout menu lineup was also really solid, so it seems worth trying when you want a filling meal at home.

On the wall, the signature dishes were displayed as posters, and just looking at them made my mouth water.

Especially seeing the photo of the fire-grilled pork stir-fry, low-temperature aged for over 24 hours, made me think I definitely need to try that next time!

The unlimited ssam vegetable bar and what comes with the meal

The harmony of smoky seokgalbi and savory cheonggukjang

Once you order, you can use the all-you-can-eat ssam vegetable bar right next to the table. The lettuce, peppers, and garlic were all kept very fresh.

It's a system where you can help yourself to as much as you want without feeling awkward, which was a full pass for us since we love wrapping our food in ssam haha. We prepped as much as we planned to eat.

Before the main dish arrived, the cheonggukjang stew and neatly prepared side dishes were set first! It simmers on a gas burner right on the table, so you can enjoy it warm all the way through.

How does the buja seokgalbi for two arrive?

The buja seokgalbi comes out on a sizzling hot stone plate piled high with shredded scallion. The seokgalbi arrives already fully cooked, so there's no waiting before digging in, which was perfect for someone as impatient as me haha. Finally, today's star dish made its appearance, and the visual was overwhelming.

So the table was fully set — now all that was left was to eat happily.

Pushing the shredded scallion aside a little, we found well-cooked onion and enoki mushrooms piled underneath! The vegetables grilled together with the meat had a doubled sweetness, and they paired fantastically with the meat.

A spoonful of black rice with cheonggukjang stew

A spoonful of nicely prepared black rice with a bite of savory cheonggukjang is true healing haha. The cheonggukjang wasn't overpowering at all — mild yet deep in flavor, the kind of taste kids and grandparents alike would really enjoy!

I put two pieces of meat on a lettuce leaf, topped it with onion and mushroom cooked on the stone plate, and garlic dipped in ssamjang, then popped it straight into my husband's mouth first. I skipped the lettuce and ate the meat with the shredded scallion to taste its true flavor, and the smoky aroma filling my mouth was pure art!

Maybe because it was protein after a workout, it tasted even more amazing. The seokgalbi for two was a pretty generous portion, but the two of us finished it off in no time.

Banwoldang Buja Sikdang Suseong Branch is a place I'd fully recommend to anyone wanting a proper, well-rounded meal! It's a great fit for a family outing or a workday lunch, so if you're looking for a good restaurant in Suseong-gu, definitely stop by haha. Another happy weekend wrapped up with delicious food! I hope you all get a hearty meal and a healthy day too! 😋
