Korean beef BBQ for two in Deuran-gil, Daegu: 500g set at Jangpro

In short

Jangpro Hanwoo Galbitsal is a hanwoo (Korean beef) BBQ restaurant on the main road at the entrance to Deuran-gil in Suseong-gu, Daegu. Two diners ordered the galbitsal (boneless short rib) and 1++ ribeye 500g set for 79,000 won, grilled the ribeye first and the galbitsal after, then added 200g of ribeye makgui, for about 50,000 won per person. For good-value hanwoo on Deuran-gil, ordering the two cuts together is the smart move at Jangpro Hanwoo Galbitsal.

On days when I want beef in Daegu, the first thing I check is the price. Deuran-gil especially has so many barbecue spots that taste matters, but I'm also always looking for somewhere I can eat hanwoo (Korean beef) without it being too expensive. This time I visited Jangpro, located in Hwanggeum-dong, Suseong-gu, Daegu. It's right on the main road at the entrance to Deuran-gil so it wasn't hard to find, and once I tried the meat, it was satisfying too.

Is there parking? Free spots for 6–7 cars behind the building

If you drive, there's a parking lot set up behind the restaurant. It comfortably fits about 6–7 cars, and with double parking depending on the situation, up to 8–9.

✅ Free parking available

The lot isn't huge, but in the evening you can also park along the main road, so parking wasn't a big inconvenience. That said, availability and roadside parking can vary depending on the time and situation, so keep that in mind if you're driving.

Inside Jangpro Hanwoo Galbitsal: room and seating

The inside of Jangpro Hanwoo Galbitsal has a comfortable atmosphere for eating meat. Even though it's hanwoo, it doesn't feel overly formal — it has the relaxed feel of a regular barbecue restaurant, so it's easy to drop in without pressure.

✅ Comfortable atmosphere and spacious layout

It's a good atmosphere for a family meal, a get-together with friends, or just a day when you want beef on Deuran-gil. The prices are relatively reasonable too, so it felt like a place you could visit not just for special occasions but any time you're craving good beef.

There are round tables by the window that add to the relaxed feel. We visited a bit early in the evening, but the restaurant already had plenty of diners. It seemed like a good size not just for family meals, meetups with friends, or dates, but also for work dinners.

Menu and prices: ribeye makgui at 11,900 won per 100g

✅ Good-value hanwoo, ribeye makgui at ₩11,900

What caught my eye at Jangpro Hanwoo Galbitsal was the ribeye makgui (grilled trimmed ribeye). It's priced at ₩11,900 per 100g, worth noting if you want hanwoo but the price usually holds you back.

There's also a menu combining galbitsal and ribeye, or you can order each cut on its own plate. Beyond that, there's a range of beef cuts like anchangsal (skirt steak), salchisal (top blade), and kkotgalbisal (flower short rib), so there's plenty to choose from depending on your taste.

  • Galbitsal + 1++ ribeye 500g — ₩79,000
  • Galbitsal plate 300g — ₩48,000
  • 1++ ribeye 300g — ₩49,000

For those who don't want to stop at just meat, there are rice dishes too — galbitsal jjim (braised short rib), doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), naengmyeon (cold noodles) — so you can plan both meat and a meal. That day we first ordered the galbitsal + ribeye 500g. We ate the ribeye first, then the galbitsal, and it was so good we ended up adding the makgui too.

Side dishes and the self-serve bar

The banchan (side dishes) at Jangpro Hanwoo Galbitsal were really simple. Onion sauce, baek-kimchi (white kimchi), lettuce jangajji (pickled lettuce), chili and garlic, and pa-kimchi (green onion kimchi) — not a huge variety, but a clean lineup of things that go well with meat.

But this simplicity actually worked well with the meat. Nothing was too strong or spicy, so I kept naturally reaching for more while eating. Beef is really about enjoying the meat itself, and if the side dishes are too intense they can overwhelm that flavor — these were mild overall, which let the hanwoo's flavor shine.

There was also a separate self-serve bar. You could grab extra side dishes or utensils there, and it was well kept and clean. Best of all, staff refilled anything running low right away, so there was no inconvenience.

How did the galbitsal and 1++ ribeye 500g set taste?

After ordering, staff quickly set out the basic side dishes and got the charcoal going fast.

Ready to grill! The service was quick, so there was no wait for the meal. (We were both starving haha)

Finally the galbitsal + ribeye 500g arrived. The first thing I noticed was how good the meat looked.

The vivid color and moderate marbling typical of hanwoo caught my eye, building anticipation before it even hit the grill.

Plate of raw meat showing marbling

We grilled the ribeye first. Ribeye comes from the back of the cow and has a good balance of lean meat and fat, so it's great for enjoying hanwoo's signature savory flavor. Its appeal is the savoriness from the marbling and tender texture, and what we ate that day had good juiciness and savory flavor when grilled.

1++ ribeye grilling on the pan

After eating some ribeye, we moved on to the galbitsal. Galbitsal has a slightly chewier texture and richer beef flavor than ribeye. There's a distinct flavor from the muscle around the ribs, and with fat mixed in just right, the savoriness builds as you chew. Trying it, it really had a different charm from the tender, savory ribeye — the ribeye was about smooth texture and clean, savory flavor, while the galbitsal was about a richer meaty aroma and chewy texture.

Galbitsal and ribeye grilling together

So rather than picking one, eating both this way was fun for comparing the differences. And grilling the meat, it was really delicious. One bite in, I thought, 'Ah, this is why they say this is a value-for-money hanwoo spot on Deuran-gil.'

The meat itself was so good it tasted great with just a light dip in salt, and it also went well with the side dishes. Going in order from the tender ribeye to the chewier galbitsal, the 500g disappeared faster than expected. In the end we couldn't stop there and ordered the makgui too.

Plate of additional ribeye makgui order

Ordering more ribeye makgui: refills start at 200g

At ₩11,900 per 100g, it's not a big commitment, making it a good pick when you want just a bit more. Rather than ordering a huge amount upfront, it seemed like a good idea to try it and add more if you're still hungry, like we did.

What two people paid: about 50,000 won each

Considering both taste and price, the hanwoo at Jangpro was highly satisfying. Beef on Deuran-gil can get pricey, but after actually visiting and trying the galbitsal and ribeye, the phrase 'good-value hanwoo' really rang true. We had the galbitsal + ribeye 500g plus the extra makgui, and for two people eating until full, it came to about ₩50,000 per person. Of course it depends on what and how much you order, but relatively speaking, eating this much hanwoo at this price was satisfying.

Table near the end of the meal

Personally, since ribeye and galbitsal each have their own charm, I'd recommend ordering both together. The ribeye was great for its tender, savory flavor, while the galbitsal had a richer meaty aroma and chewy texture the more you chewed — each with a different appeal.

Who should eat at Jangpro Hanwoo Galbitsal

  • Anyone looking for good-value hanwoo on Deuran-gil
  • Anyone who wants hanwoo but finds the price a burden
  • Anyone who wants to try ribeye and galbitsal together
  • Anyone looking for a barbecue restaurant walkable from Suseong Market Station
  • Anyone who wants a relaxed beef meal with family or friends
  • Anyone who cares about the taste of the meat

Parking is available behind the restaurant, but since the space isn't huge, it's worth checking ahead if you're visiting with multiple cars. Still, from someone who's actually eaten there, I can confirm — the meat here is genuinely good. The prices were relatively satisfying too, and above all, the meat was really delicious. I was happy enough with this meal that I'd go back. Next time I want beef on Deuran-gil, I'll probably head to Jangpro again. This time we had ribeye and galbitsal, so next time I'd like to try other cuts like anchangsal, salchisal, or kkotgalbisal.
