Daegu chicken BBQ with a private room for 70+: Hyeongnim Dakgui

Lately I've had way more get-togethers, so I'd been looking for a good group dinner spot near Keimyung University in Daemyeong-dong, Daegu. There were lots of people and some were coming by car, so there was a lot to consider, but guess what, I found a jackpot place that ticks every box! haha

It's Hyeongnim Dakgui Daemyeong-dong Gyeongdae branch (형님닭구이 대명동계대점), and it opened up a whole new world for me, someone who thought chicken only meant fried chicken. I can't imagine a better place for a group dinner or company outing near Daemyeong-dong! (200% sincere, promise)

Is parking easy at Hyeongnim Dakgui Daemyeong-dong Gyeongdae branch?

The restaurant supports 2 hours of parking at the Gyemyeong Infra parking lot or the Keimyung University parking lot. Parking is the thing you worry about most when a group gets together, right? Here you don't need to worry about that at all.

A full 2 hours of support at the Gyemyeong Infra or Keimyung University lot! There's plenty of parking nearby, so I could visit stress-free. Such thoughtful care is great, isn't it~ For a Daegu company-dinner meat restaurant with easy parking, it gets a full pass from me!

Group rooms, playroom, private rooms: what's the interior like?

The restaurant has big, widely spaced tables, a kids' playroom, and private rooms from 4 people up to a large room for 70 or more. The moment I walked in I couldn't help saying, "Wow, it's huge!"

The tables are big and the spacing is wide, so the whole place felt airy and comfortable.

On one side there's even a playroom where kids can run around freely, all set up! It's a perfect space for a family meal out too. (Moms and dads, make some noise~~! 🤩)

On top of that, there are private rooms from 4 people up to a large one holding 70 or more, so it works for a cozy get-together just among us or a whole-company dinner.

What's at the Hyeongnim Dakgui self-bar?

The self-bar has fresh wrap vegetables, plus kimchi stew and doenjang stew. I've never seen such a luxurious self-bar! The real jackpot is this self-bar. It's not just a few side dishes.

Fresh wrap vegetables are a given, and there's kimchi stew and doenjang stew too, and they taste amazing.

At this quality, I think Keimyung University students or office workers nearby would be satisfied every day even on the monthly meal plan. It was way better than your average Korean buffet.

How is the Hyeongnim Dakgui menu organized?

As a chicken BBQ specialist, the menu is divided into salt, spicy marinade and soy chicken BBQ, and there are also pork ribs, pork belly and beef, so the choice is really wide.

You can eat beef and pork anywhere, so we didn't even hesitate and ordered Hyeongnim Dakgui's signature chicken BBQ platter. A set where you taste all three flavors, salt, spicy marinade and soy... I can't resist that!

Just looking at the posters on the wall, I could feel the owner's pride, and my anticipation kept building the whole time we waited after ordering, you know? haha

The signature chicken BBQ platter: how were the three flavors?

The chicken BBQ platter is a set of salt, spicy marinade and soy chicken grilled over charcoal. Finally the glowing charcoal arrived and the platter was set on top.

The sizzling sound and the drifting charcoal aroma made my head spin.

Wow... the chicken was so tender it melted in my mouth, I wondered how chicken could be this soft. It's a different taste from fried chicken, much more refined and clean.

The salt chicken is the king of clean flavor! You really taste the chicken's own savoriness. The spicy marinade has a spicy-sweet kick and the soy one adds a salty umami, so alternating between the three flavors was a lot of fun.

Dip it in the special sauce that comes with it and the flavor doubles! Crispy outside, juicy inside, so this is what good chicken BBQ is. One bite and I understood right away why everyone says it's healthier and tastier than fried chicken.

Is there dessert? Ice cream and a coffee machine

Hyeongnim Dakgui Daemyeong-dong Gyeongdae branch has ice cream and a coffee machine, so you can have your meal and dessert in one place.

After filling up on meat, it's sweet dessert time to finish! Meal and dessert, all in one place. (The owner's sense, wow...👍) A cup of cool, sweet ice cream cleaned up my palate and I felt like I had nothing left to wish for.

Yes, Hyeongnim Dakgui Daemyeong-dong Gyeongdae branch offers a monthly meal plan too. The self-bar alone is tremendous, as you saw..? Honestly, seeing it, I thought if I worked around here I'd want to come here for lunch every day...!!! And now there's a monthly plan? If it were me, I'd definitely sign up and go like it's the company cafeteria!!

Is it recommended for group dinners in Daemyeong-dong and near Keimyung University?
