Geobugi Dongne Gunpo Sanbon Branch (거북이동네 군포산본점) is a Korean BBQ restaurant near Sanbon Station, at 1140-2 Sanbon-dong, 2F Units 201 and 202, Gunpo-si, Gyeonggi. It is open Mon–Thu 11:30–23:00 and Fri–Sun 11:30–24:00.
Geobugi Dongne menu and ordering units
Geobugi Dongne has pork, beef, even shabu-shabu, everything! Meat must be ordered from 500g, and extra orders come in 200g units! The portions are big and the prices are on the cheap side. Tables can handle meat plus shabu-shabu, or meat plus a stew, boiling together, so that's a real plus.^^
Today we ordered the couple set (pork belly + neck + hangjeongsal + gabrisal), and for sides, doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) for 2 and freshly made cauldron rice for 2.
Is Geobugi Dongne crowded late on a weekday night?
I visited Geobugi Dongne Gunpo Sanbon Branch late on a weekday evening and it was almost completely full. Yes, a weekday late evening! WOW, there are a ton of tables and they'd filled every single one. I almost didn't get a seat!
There's also a room off to one side. It seats about 12 people! I'm planning to book it for a family dinner sometime!
Off to one side there was also a sign saying Geobugi Dongne serves 14-day aged pork and thick 3.3cm cuts. You can feel their pride in the meat!
What the ₩5,000 table fee gets you at the self-bar
The most surprising thing at Geobugi Dongne was that the table fee is ₩5,000, and that ₩5,000 covers all of the following! Wow!
Wasabi / curry powder / special salt / ssamjang (wrap sauce) / meljeot (anchovy sauce) / sesame oil / teriyaki sauce. That's more than 7 sauces for your meat alone.
There was broth for shabu-shabu and some shabu-shabu add-ins too! The wraps are really varied: lettuce, perilla leaves, angelica leaves, wrapping cabbage and more! Garlic, chili peppers, onion and scallion salad are the basics!
There were lots of side dishes I personally love! Wasabi mushrooms / pickles / bracken / corn
Four kinds of jangajji (soy-pickled vegetables)!
Radish wraps / bean sprouts / napa cabbage kimchi / dried radish strips. It feels like "I didn't know what you'd like, so I made everything!" Even without the seasonings and wraps, the side dishes alone come to 12 kinds. Omg.
Even dessert ice cream and coffee.. crazy. They give you so much, so a ₩5,000 table fee is very cheap. It's almost salad-bar level!
There were so, so many side dishes, but I set up just what I wanted to eat! If you leave food you took from the self-bar, you pay an environmental fee, so take only what you'll eat~~ (I don't like wasting food anyway, haha.)
The 4-cut couple set and what to wrap it with
While we waited, the couple set arrived! Pork belly + neck + gabrisal + hangjeongsal~~ They grilled the pork belly first, deliciously.
Grill the side mushrooms up too and it's pure bliss!
Geobugi Dongne's biggest strength is its huge range of accompaniments. You really never get sick of the meat: lettuce / perilla leaves / wasabi / ssamjang / bean sprouts / bracken / pickled onion, wrap any of it with the meat and nothing doesn't work, I swear T_T
Geobugi Dongne cauldron rice and doenjang stew: must-orders?
The real kick at Geobugi Dongne was the freshly made cauldron rice for 2...♥ The rice was properly fluffy and glossy. At the end I poured in hot water to make sungnyung (scorched rice tea)~~
The second kick... doenjang stew for 2..♥ Please promise me that when you come to Geobugi Dongne, you'll get the cauldron rice and the doenjang stew. T_T
My dad put the stew over his rice, and he said it cured all the drinking he'd done with the meat, right at the end. Hahaha
Sanbon Station gem Geobugi Dongne!!!! The meat is delicious, the portions are big and there are so many side dishes, it was a blissful meal~~! Oh, and! They were cleaning the ice cream machine at the end, so I couldn't have the dessert ice cream. So sad~~ Next visit I'll have the ice cream too.
