Gobusi Nonhyeon Branch (고부시 논현점) is an izakaya (Japanese-style pub) tucked inside the Nonhyeon Station food alley, close to Sinsa Station in Seocho, Seoul. After a company dinner, a group of 6 booked Gobusi Nonhyeon Branch for a second round and ordered 7 kinds of skewers, a baby crab and freshwater shrimp cracker set, creamy mentaiko udon and motsunabe, chosen for an already-full crowd. Gobusi Nonhyeon Branch is a strong second-round pick when everyone in the group wants to choose their own dishes to share.

Solo tonkatsu lunch by Seoul Botanic Park: pick-two katsu at Katsuryun

Katsuryun is a tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) restaurant in Magok, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, near Seoul Botanic Park and Magongnaru Station. After visiting Seoul Botanic Park, the writer had a solo lunch at Katsuryun. The order was the Ryunbyeolseon set, which lets you pick two katsu, with tenderloin katsu and tori katsu (chicken cutlet) plus a soup curry add-on. The juicy tori katsu, thick tenderloin katsu, yuja (citron) dressing salad and truffle salt stood out. Katsuryun is an easy, comfortable spot for a clean solo meal near Seoul Botanic Park.

With one-person sets in the 10,000-won range and adjustable spice levels, Pasta Go Magok Branch is an easy choice for a solo meal or an office lunch.

Magongnaru café hidden in room 226: aged French toast, Pict Roastery

Pict Roastery Magongnaru Branch is a roastery café in room 226 on the 2nd floor of a building a 3-minute walk from Magongnaru Station Exit 2 in Gangseo, Seoul. On a solo weekday afternoon visit, I had the signature black latte for 6,500 won and the aged French toast for 11,900 won, which takes about 20 minutes after ordering, and dine-in customers can get one americano refill. The signage at Pict Roastery is confusing, but if you walk all the way to the far right you'll find it, and the nutty coffee with the French toast makes a great pairing.
