In short
Salon de Supullim is a hair salon near Seodaemun Station in Seoul. With thick, severely curly hair prone to frizz and flyaways at the roots, I received a restorative straightening treatment tailored to keep my hair smooth without making it cling flat to my scalp. Verdict: a worthwhile option for a naturally polished finish on strong curls.

Why I got restorative straightening for severely curly hair
My hair is naturally thick and quite severely curly, so my biggest concern is how frizzy it gets with even a little humidity. Especially once my roots start growing out, little flyaways stick up from the crown, and my hair gets voluminous overall even after drying it—so getting ready every morning is a whole task.
So I tend to get chemical straightening regularly. This time, I went to Salon de Supullim, a hair salon near Seodaemun Station, for a straightening treatment. It was a great fit for me because I wanted my curls properly controlled, but with naturally tidy hair rather than a pin-straight, plastered-down look :)

Tips for booking restorative straightening near Seodaemun Station
I visited while looking for a salon near Seodaemun Station that does restorative straightening well, and it was conveniently accessible by public transport. Since straightening usually takes longer than a regular cut or hair treatment, I recommend booking it when you have plenty of room in your schedule.
Hours are 10:30–20:00.

If your curls are strong like mine, it helps to mention your current hair condition and when you last had straightening done when you book, so the consultation is easier too. But Haeun, the designer who looked after me, took one look and immediately guessed how long it had been since my last treatment, haha.

As soon as I walked in, I was struck by the rows and rows of Kerasis products on display. The stations were spacious too, so I didn't have to worry about the person beside me and the salon felt nice and comfortable, haha.

What is the process for straightening severely curly hair?
Before the treatment began, they first checked my hair's current condition and how curly it was. Then they felt around my head and pointed out where volume should be retained. My trust was already going up from there..!
They also explained that severely curly hair should not automatically be straightened aggressively; it is important to assess damaged sections and previous treatment history as well. My hair was not in the same condition all over, so I really liked that they examined these details carefully first.

Natural straightening results that do not cling to the scalp
Personally, I think the softening and pressing stages are important in a straightening treatment. They carefully straightened the especially curly sections while making sure my hair did not feel overly stuck to my scalp overall.
I personally dislike the distinctive, flat-against-the-head look that is common after straightening, but I loved that this treatment left my hair naturally calm instead.

Curly roots and frizz before straightening
The parts that stressed me out most were the curls at my roots and the overall frizz. No matter how diligently I dried my hair with a blow-dryer after washing it, wavy sections would appear here and there. On humid days, it would puff up quickly, making it difficult to keep a neat look.

After the treatment, though, the calmness I felt just by running my hand down my hair was noticeably different. What I loved most was that my curls had been straightened without looking unnaturally pressed flat! With the texture tidied neatly from the roots through the lengths, I looked much more put together even wearing my hair down instead of tying it up.

Normally, I would have to tidy my hair once more with a flat iron even after blow-drying, but after the treatment, drying alone seemed enough to give it some shape, so I think my morning prep time will be shorter too. Results and how long they last can vary depending on your hair condition, though, so if your hair is badly damaged or has been bleached before, I recommend having a thorough consultation before the treatment.
