Udo abalone restaurant, abalone rice & stew lunch: Soseom Jeonbok
In short
Soseom Jeonbok (소섬전복) is an abalone restaurant on the Udo coastal road near Geomeolle Beach on Udo Island, Jeju. Soseom Jeonbok's butter-grilled abalone set comes with two single dishes of your choice; this lunch paired it with abalone rice and abalone ttukbaegi (stew served in an earthenware pot), eaten with a view of the Udo sea through floor-to-ceiling windows. Every dish at Soseom Jeonbok came with plenty of abalone, so both the portions and the value were satisfying.

How generous is the abalone at Soseom Jeonbok on Udo?
Soseom Jeonbok (소섬전복) is an abalone restaurant on Udo's coastal road, near Geomeolle Beach. Abalone rice, abalone stew and butter-grilled abalone all arrive on one table, and I never expected to get this much abalone on Udo.
If you've come over to Udo during a Jeju trip... you have to have seafood at least once ♡ I was looking for an Udo restaurant where I could eat abalone, and at Soseom Jeonbok I felt like I got to eat as much abalone as I wanted. Abalone rice, abalone stew, butter-grilled abalone, so much abalone on one table, haha

Every dish had plenty of abalone in it, so personally I was happy with the value too.
Lunch on Udo with a view of the sea at Soseom Jeonbok
Soseom Jeonbok sits right on the Udo coastal road, so once you step inside, the sea of Udo spreads out beyond huge picture windows. I really liked this view too. Blue sea and green fields all in one glance, so even while eating you get the full Jeju trip mood.

When you're wandering around Udo, meals become part of the trip, right? Good food plus a sea view meant there was no need to rush, and it was nice to take a relaxed lunch.

The butter-grilled abalone set: which single dishes did we pick?
This set at Soseom Jeonbok is butter-grilled abalone plus two single dishes of your choice, and we chose abalone rice and abalone stew. When you hear "abalone dish," it's easy to imagine a few slivers of abalone, but Soseom Jeonbok felt like it didn't skimp on the abalone at all.
The abalone rice had plenty of abalone in it, and the abalone stew was loaded with seafood. Then the butter-grilled abalone came out separately too, so the whole table felt covered in abalone dishes. Rather than eating just one menu item, I was even happier being able to enjoy a variety of abalone dishes evenly.

How were the butter-grilled abalone and abalone rice?
The butter-grilled abalone at Soseom Jeonbok paired the rich, nutty butter flavor nicely with abalone's signature chewy texture. It was fun eating the golden-grilled abalone piece by piece, and with the spicy side dishes that came along, it never felt greasy.
I liked the abalone rice too. The rice was topped with plenty of abalone, so every spoonful had abalone to chew, which I loved.

How was the broth of the abalone stew?
The abalone stew (jeonbok ttukbaegi, abalone in a clay pot) at Soseom Jeonbok had shrimp, clams and other seafood, so the broth tasted clean and refreshing. The stew had its own charm. I liked being able to have a warm broth alongside the abalone dishes. A bite of nutty grilled abalone, a spoonful of abalone rice, and in between, hot clay-pot broth.
Soseom Jeonbok, if you want to really eat abalone on Udo
What satisfied me most at Soseom Jeonbok was, of course, the generous amount of abalone. If you go out of your way to eat abalone and only a few pieces show up, that's a letdown, right? Soseom Jeonbok had no such disappointment, and since the abalone came cooked in several ways, I didn't get tired of it until the very end.
I liked that each dish had its own charm: the rich butter-grilled abalone, the mild abalone rice, and the refreshing broth of the abalone stew. Above all, eating a table full of abalone dishes, I thought this set was pretty good value.

A lunch of a hearty abalone table while looking out at the sea of Udo. If you're searching for a good place to eat on Udo or Jeju's Udo, Soseom Jeonbok seems like a decent choice 👍 I think it suits people who love abalone or want to try several abalone dishes at once. Personally, the biggest satisfaction was simply that I got to eat abalone so generously ♡
