Finally stepping inside Choe Uyeong Sushiya Jongno!! Since there were three of us, we sat at a 4-person table!! There's such a variety of seating — I loved that about Choe Uyeong Sushiya!!

There are cute sushi-themed illustrations too~!! Is this Korea or Japan~ it feels so Japanese

Interior with Japanese-style sushi illustrations

Sake and sushi paired together look insanely delicious... They also sell a variety of alcohol and drinks, so give it a try!! Great to have both a varied menu and varied drinks!

People say sake goes so well with sushi, now I'm curious... I'll have to try it next time~!! Try it out at Choe Uyeong Sushiya Jongno!

Choe Uyeong Sushiya Jongno also has group seating ready! Great for coming in for lunch while working, too~!

Good seating for groups of three or four!! And there's even a wall dividing it, which was nice!! Love that the dining space is separated!!

House-made soy sauce and the side dishes that come with every order

Choe Uyeong Seafood's house-made soy sauce

Choe Uyeong Sushiya makes its own soy sauce. Choe Uyeong Seafood's house-made soy sauce is so savory and delicious... more than I expected from a soy sauce

The basic side dishes are already set at each seat~~ Just take as much as you need!!

  • Basic side dishes: pickled ginger / rakkyo (pickled shallots)
  • Basic side dishes: broth / wasabi soy sauce

They gave us the house-made soy sauce directly, so we scooped some out right away~!! Since there were three of us, they gave us three portions~!!

Individual place settings, done!! Now all that's left is to eat well haha, I'm excited to have sushi again after so long

As soon as we sat down, they brought us cold water right away~!! Sipping cold water while waiting for the food!!

Five dishes for three people, under 70,000 won total

Table spread with sushi, tempura, and udon

The full spread: sushi, kaisendon, tempura and udon on one table

Premium sushi, 15 pieces for 19,000 won

You could call this today's main dish. Honestly it's all sushi, but I really wanted to try the premium set

A plate of premium sushi, 15 pieces

Assorted sushi, 12 pieces for 13,000 won

The assorted sushi is the best-seller at Choe Uyeong Sushiya. Maybe because it's the safest choice, a lot of people order it

Kaisendon for 14,000 won

Kaisendon (raw seafood rice bowl) was a first for me!! It felt like making your own sushi~

Kaisendon topped with raw fish

A spread from Choe Uyeong Sushiya that looks like the table's about to collapse. So much food~ when am I supposed to eat all this?

Table set with all five menu items together

The premium sushi we grabbed first. The lineup is unbelievable.... time to eat some tasty sushi. Every single piece is made with such care

Close-up of the premium sushi lineup

Sushi topped with chewy raw fish!! I'm clueless about sushi types so I don't really know which fish this is, but if it looks delicious, in it goes,,,

Who knew scallop sushi could be this plump. The nice, fat scallop is so delicious~~

Plump scallop sushi

The basic egg and fried tofu sushi were also totally my style... genuinely not a single miss in this lineup!! Onward to the yukhoe (raw beef) shrimp sushi too!!!

So many delicious-looking pieces that I photographed each one~ Been a while since I had this much variety of sushi.. Come to Choe Uyeong Sushiya and you can try it too!!

A plate with a variety of sushi

The kaisendon is piled high with raw fish too... it really felt like I was building my own sushi~ If a place has kaisendon on the menu, I'm ordering it from now on!!

Udon for 5,000 won

We also ordered one udon!! Just 5,000 won, and yet they serve such a generous bowl~!!

They also gave us pickled radish to eat alongside the udon!! Crunchy pickled radish is completely my thing~

The udon is only 5,000 won, but that doesn't mean the portion is small. It's a hefty amount of udon!! Insanely delicious...

A bowl of ₩5,000 udon

Mixed tempura for 13,000 won

An unbelievable amount of mixed tempura. How many shrimp tempura pieces are even in here??

Mixed tempura loaded with shrimp

Finally, all the food arrived so it's photo time!! Five menu items for three people... but it was so good we finished it all haha

All five menu items served together on the table

The portions were huge, but everything was so tasty there was nothing to leave behind.. even looking at the photos now makes me want more. We were so full we didn't need dinner haha

When they bring out the mixed tempura, they also give you scissors and tongs!! Cut it up ahead of time and enjoy~!

Eating pretty, pale pink sushi!! Choe Uyeong Sushiya Jongno's own house-made soy sauce was exactly the kind of soy sauce that suits my taste!

Sushi dipped in house-made soy sauce

The kaisendon was the thing I ate the most of. There was even uni on top of the kaisendon... they really seem to hold nothing back

With so many different kinds of raw fish piled on the kaisendon, it's great that you can mix textures however you like~!!

Piled a huge piece of salmon on top to make my own sushi!! Somehow it ended up way too big.. haha, wanted to make it like a sushi master but couldn't ㅜㅜ

The soy sauce that comes with the mixed tempura is mild, so you can dip generously~!! Definitely try the mixed tempura when you visit Choe Uyeong Sushiya!!

Is Choe Uyeong Sushiya Jongno worth it? Final thoughts

Leaving Choe Uyeong Sushiya full and happy after a meal with the family!! I want to come back next time and enjoy another delicious meal haha. Whenever I want sushi in Jongno, I know where I'm coming~!!
