Jongno restaurant for beef knife-cut noodles: Cheonghwa
In short
Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon is a Chinese restaurant in Jongno, Seoul, near Gwanghwamun Station. I ordered beef knife-cut noodles, crystal dumplings, and fish-fragrant eggplant rice, and enjoyed the two-floor space, table kiosks, and flavors with a local feel. I seriously love Chinese food, so I’m always hunting down good places!! A few days ago, I had an errand in the Gwanghwamun area and was wondering what to have for lunch when an amazing spot popped right up on my radar—so I rushed over to tell you all about it!!

Around Jongno, Jonggak, and Gwanghwamun, it’s surprisingly hard to find somewhere that is both filling for lunch and comfortable, isn’t it? This place completely won over my taste buds with its deeply flavored broth and chewy noodles, so let me give you the full scoop!!
An easy spot from Gwanghwamun and Jonggak Stations

Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon (청화 우육도삭면) is near Gwanghwamun Station on Subway Line 5, so it has truly excellent access by public transit. After a filling meal, you can walk over toward the Kyobo Book Centre area to browse books and enjoy a little culture while you digest—honestly, it couldn’t be better for planning a date route either.
It’s also easy to reach from Jonggak Station on Line 1, and if you take a leisurely walk along Cheonggyecheon Stream, you’ll spot the sign before long. Right in the middle of a business district packed with office buildings, it has the perfect route for busy workers to quickly pop in during lunch.
Two floors of seating and kiosks at every table

The second I walked in, I thought, “With a first and second floor, I won’t have to worry about finding a seat!!” At lunchtime in this neighborhood, every place is usually packed and getting a table feels nearly impossible. But this one has a spacious setup with a comfortable second floor too, so it would work without any hassle for work dinners or groups!!

There are also thoughtfully and efficiently arranged seats throughout both floors where you can confidently dine alone without feeling self-conscious, so it seems like a wonderful layout for nearby office workers to enjoy a comfortable meal all to themselves!! Better yet, every table has a kiosk, so even during hectic peak hours, you can sit down, take your time looking through the menu photos, and order and pay with just a few taps. I loved that~!
From beef knife-cut noodles to dim sum: menu and prices

There are so many Chinese dishes, including beef knife-cut noodles, rice bowls, mala tofu, and dim sum, that choosing what to eat becomes the happiest dilemma!! The lineup was absolutely made for someone like me who loves bold, unfamiliar spices and local-style food, so simply reading the menu had me swallowing and getting more and more excited.

That day, we ordered three things: beef knife-cut noodles (₩11,000), crystal dumplings (₩9,800), and fish-fragrant eggplant rice (₩10,800)!!

What I loved most was that, despite being in the expensive heart of Gwanghwamun, the prices are very reasonable at just over ₩10,000!! These days, one meal can make your wallet feel much lighter anywhere you go, but this place keeps prices accessible for office workers’ lunches. It really felt like an amazing value-for-money restaurant that delivers both quality and affordability.
Hot crystal dumplings and a satisfying meal

Having plenty of seats and quick table turnover, so you don’t have to wait long, was such a huge plus!! The table kiosks also made ordering so convenient!

Not long after we ordered, the dim sum we got as a side arrived. The dumplings had clearly been steamed right then and were piping hot; the moment I bit in, hot juices burst through the thin, chewy wrapper and filled my mouth—it was pure bliss. I’d once been deeply disappointed at another Chinese restaurant by pre-steamed dumplings where only the steamer was hot while the filling was cold, but these felt fresh and carefully made on another level!!

Above all, every main dish, from the beef noodle soup to the eggplant rice, had a local feel and tasted delicious, so I was completely, totally satisfied.

Crispy fish-fragrant eggplant rice
The fish-fragrant eggplant rice preserved the eggplant’s naturally juicy character perfectly, while the outside was crisp and coated in an incredible sweet-and-spicy sauce. I couldn’t help but be impressed.

Beef noodle broth soaked into thick knife-cut noodles
The beef noodle soup broth was clear yet had such deep body, and it soaked right into the thick knife-cut noodles. I enjoyed it so much!!

A filling, quick lunch in Gwanghwamun

From the food quality and comfortable dining room to the reasonable prices, everything came together perfectly without a single weak point. It was such an excellent, satisfying meal that it felt as though it made up for all those past days when I went searching for truly local flavors and came up short.

Whenever you’re craving hot, rich beef noodle soup, curious about the chewy, uneven charm of knife-cut noodles, or simply need a quick lunch near Gwanghwamun, this is somewhere I wholeheartedly recommend—please make time to visit at least once. I hope you can enjoy plenty of small, cheerful healing through tasty, value-packed food amid the fierce, busy everyday lives of office workers!!
