Sangsu Station Korean pub with free potato salad: Dambaek Jujeom
In short
Dambaek Jujeom (담백주점) is a newly opened Korean pub near Exit 1 of Sangsu Station in Mapo, Seoul. After free rice crackers and potato salad, the writer ordered Hanwoo yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) with uni (sea urchin) served with gamtae seaweed, plus a gochujang stew made spicy with Cheongyang chili peppers, and enjoyed both. With traditional liquor and makgeolli on the menu, Dambaek Jujeom is a Sangsu bar worth saving for the last stop of a date.

Dambaek Jujeom location and atmosphere near Sangsu Station

Dambaek Jujeom, the closest Korean pub to Exit 1 of Sangsu Station, is brand new and piping hot off the press 🙌 It's listed as 1st floor, but you still have to climb one flight of stairs, haha. It's a lovely spot for a relaxed drink after work, haha.

The clean interior feels a bit like a restaurant, and the slightly dim lighting gives it a moody vibe that would work for a date too, right?! Dambaek Jujeom also has a wide range of drinks, including traditional liquor and makgeolli 😀

Traditional decorative items here and there catch your eye. The menu itself is Korean food too, so lots of foreign visitors curious about Korean drinking culture come in, haha. Foreign tourists sat right in front of our table and had a drink there 🫢
Free starters at Dambaek Jujeom: rice crackers and potato salad

As a Korean pub should, Dambaek Jujeom put a rice cracker at each seat, haha. It was my first time at a bar that gives out rice crackers, so that was fun 😀 I hadn't had one in ages and it was tasty again, lol. It was crunchy and just right when I was hungry.

Potato salad came out as the free starter, and why is the quality so high?! It isn't just plain potato salad, it has pickled cucumber, bacon and cheese in it, and it tasted good enough to sell as a side dish, haha. If it were on the menu as a side, I'd honestly pay for it!
Hanwoo yukhoe with uni and gamtae at Dambaek Jujeom

The Hanwoo yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) with uni (sea urchin) at Dambaek Jujeom is beautifully plated and a combination that can't go wrong, and the price was very reasonable by my standards, haha. Hanwoo yukhoe with uni and even gamtae (seaweed) is the kind of dish you'd expect at a fancy pub, haha.

Uni, such a luxury ingredient..😭 I had some really good uni last time and kept thinking about it, and now I'm eating it again at Dambaek Jujeom ㅜㅜ Usually you only get Hanwoo yukhoe, but Dambaek Jujeom serves it with gamtae and uni for a really solid combination, haha.

This is good-quality Hanwoo yukhoe, not frozen. Mix it all up with the egg yolk and eat it as is, or have it with pear for a better texture. It seems like an easy appetizer to order when you're already full, haha.
Gochujang stew as the soup dish at Dambaek Jujeom

And then the soup, a must with soju! We ordered the gochujang stew (red chili paste stew), which is said to be the best of Dambaek Jujeom's soup dishes, haha. So I gave it a try.

The gochujang stew arrives already cooked through, so you can eat it right when it starts boiling, which I loved. It's packed with spicy Cheongyang chili peppers, so a spoonful of broth when the yukhoe starts to feel rich goes together perfectly. There were lots of vegetables in it too, so good 💕

And of course it's loaded with pork, which gochujang stew can't do without >< The basic dishes are all done well, so whatever you order at Dambaek Jujeom is a hit 💕 Even just two dishes is plenty, haha.

Dambaek Jujeom as the last stop on a Sangsu or Hapjeong date
When you want a last drink to end a date, I recommend Dambaek Jujeom near Hongdae, Hapjeong and Sangsu Station, where the food never lets you down 💕
