Where to eat octopus and thin-sliced pork together in Dongnae?
Daepagajoa Busan Dongnae Branch is a Dongnae BBQ restaurant where you can grill webfoot octopus and thin-sliced pork belly (daepa) on one pan. I'm back with another Dongnae restaurant review!! I used to go to Hansin Pocha a lot in Dongnae, but after it closed down I stopped coming for a while. Then I heard about a place serving daepa and octopus together, so I headed all the way to Dongnae to check it out!!

Daepagajoa menu and sides
The main item at Daepagajoa Busan Dongnae Branch is the octopus + daepa set, and apparently takeout is available too! The menu is posted nice and big right beside the table, and since octopus + daepa is the signature, that's what I ordered!
There's a good range of sides too: sausage, mushrooms, shrimp, cold noodles and seafood doenjang stew (soybean paste stew), and you can add ramyeon noodles or udon noodles partway through. Also, it's been hard to find non-alcoholic beer at bars and restaurants lately, but they sell it here!

Seating at Daepagajoa Busan Dongnae Branch: date or group dinner?
The restaurant is split into a wide seating area near the entrance and a separate space further inside, so it works for both dates and group dinners. The interior was tidy, and as you walk in from the entrance there's another separated area like this!! If you don't like noise, I'd recommend heading to the inside section!!

Further in, there are moody window seats near the air conditioner, which seem perfect for a date!! After work, a drink here with your girlfriend or boyfriend... ahh, so romantic, right??

The seats you see right as you come in are spacious like this! This area felt better for a group dinner than a date!!

Aprons: pick disposable or regular
Near the tables at Daepagajoa Busan Dongnae Branch, there are regular aprons in different colors plus disposable ones. Doesn't a small detail like this show how thoughtful the owner is? The aprons were so clean I wondered if the place had just opened. If you don't want to use ones others have worn, take a disposable one; if you want something thicker that really blocks splatter, take a regular one. Your choice!!

How were the side dishes and the free steamed egg?
After you order, Daepagajoa Busan Dongnae Branch brings napa cabbage kimchi, radish, bean sprouts, and lettuce with perilla leaves, plus a free steamed egg (gyeran-jjim). Extra steamed egg is only ₩1,000...!
The complimentary steamed egg at most places tends to be too bland or too salty, but here the seasoning was just right! Owner, you're a legend...

Portion and taste of the octopus + daepa set
The daepa at Daepagajoa Busan Dongnae Branch was clearly thicker than the usual thin-sliced pork belly, and the octopus was big and plump, which surprised me! The portion was bigger than I expected, and I was seriously stuffed...

Look at that... how are you supposed to wait until it cooks?? Luckily it cooked fast!! It's done by the time you've picked at a few sides, but be careful because it can be scorching hot if you rush (I rushed and burned the roof of my mouth... haha).

If you run low on kimchi or sauce while eating, use the self-serve bar, and the Wi-Fi info is stuck right on the fridge, so you can connect without feeling awkward!!

Icy noodles and udon noodles: what to finish with?
The icy noodles (salleumeum guksu) I ordered midway at Daepagajoa Busan Dongnae Branch had a tangy broth that cut through the richness of the meat. See the ice crystals? The coolness instantly healed the roof of my mouth that I burned by rushing! The broth is on the tangy side, so it fills the gap just when you start feeling the greasiness and kind of resets your fullness!

And if you know good food, you know adding udon noodles is a must! I actually wanted fried rice too, but the portion was so big I knew I couldn't finish it, so I added udon noodles out of regret, and it turned out to be a great choice!!

If you've been looking for a good restaurant or BBQ place in Dongnae, I highly recommend Daepagajoa Dongnae Branch!!
