Yukmildo Dongnae Direct Branch (육밀도 동래직영점) is an aged-meat Korean BBQ restaurant on Chungnyeol-daero, between Dongnae Station and Suan Station in Busan. Over dinner with friends, the writer ordered 2 servings each of aged whole pork belly (ogyeopsal) and pork jowl (hangjeongsal), and staff grilled everything from start to finish, leaving the table free to talk; the whole-grain mustard, wasabi and grilled white kimchi combination stood out. Quiet and spacious, Yukmildo Dongnae Direct Branch is worth recommending for a group dinner or friends' get-together in Dongnae.

After reserving ahead, the writer picked up the Gongju chestnut rice loaf (₩7,900), the signature red bean bun (₩3,700) and a rice salt bread (₩2,800), and the red bean bun became the favorite thanks to its chewy crust and not-too-sweet red bean filling. Dongnae Station bar with a friend: Sichuan eggplant, Lounge Mokhwa

Lounge Mokhwa Dongnae Branch is a Hong Kong-style Chinese bar near Exit 4 of Dongnae Station in Busan. Already full, the writer stopped by with a friend and ordered the Sichuan fried eggplant (19,000 won), coated in a thick mapo tofu-style sauce, and the Chinese corn fritter (12,000 won), crispy outside and soft inside, and was impressed by both. The Sichuan fried eggplant at Lounge Mokhwa Dongnae Branch is the best fried eggplant the writer has had recently and a must-order.

Savings-club Korean BBQ by Dongnae Station: 3 aged cuts, Yukmildo

Yukmildo Dongnae Direct Branch is a charcoal-grill Korean BBQ restaurant on Chungnyeol-daero, between Dongnae Station and Suan Station in Busan, where staff grill the meat for you. For a two-person gye (savings club) meeting on a Saturday evening, we booked ahead and ordered one 130g portion each of aged ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly), samgyeopsal (pork belly) and moksal (pork neck), tried 4 ssam (lettuce wrap) combinations and finished with dolsot cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew in a stone pot). With cozy partitioned sofa booths, private rooms and a dedicated staff member grilling at the table, Yukmildo Dongnae Direct Branch passed on every count as a Korean BBQ spot near Dongnae Station.

Sasaenghwal is a Western restaurant tucked inside Dongnae Market in Dongnae, Busan, serving pasta, risotto, pizza, katsu, coffee and drinks. A regular who has returned many times booked a table for a group and ordered 9 dishes, including salad pasta, country oil pasta, barley cream risotto, a four-katsu platter and gorgonzola pizza. Pasta and risotto were priced at 16,900 won, the katsu platter at 19,900 won and pizza at 24,900 won. Verdict: even with that many dishes, not one missed, making Sasaenghwal a highly satisfying Dongnae pasta restaurant.
