Tripe BBQ worth revisiting near Gwanggyojungang Station: Sekwang

In short

Sekwang Yangdaechang Suwon Gwanggyo is a beef tripe and intestine (yangdaechang and gopchang) restaurant near Gwanggyojungang Station and Yeonmu Middle School in Suwon. On yet another repeat visit, the writer ordered the mixed grill for two (daechang, makchang and teugyang) at ₩52,000 and yang (beef tripe) fried rice at ₩14,000. Staff grilled everything at the table, brushed on sauce and cooked it again, so it felt less greasy. The writer's verdict is that the Suwon Gwanggyo branch tastes noticeably better than other Sekwang Yangdaechang locations.

Since moving to Suwon I've found a few favorite restaurants, and this yangdaechang place is one I love so much as a Gwanggyo gopchang (beef intestine) spot that I'm already on my Nth visit. Let me introduce it!

It's Sekwang Yangdaechang (세광양대창) Suwon Gwanggyo, my Gwanggyo gopchang pick!!

Where is Sekwang Yangdaechang Suwon Gwanggyo?

Sekwang Yangdaechang Suwon Gwanggyo is a gopchang restaurant near Gwanggyojungang Station and Yeonmu Middle School. Sekwang Yangdaechang has branches in many areas, and there's even one right in front of my house, but the Suwon Gwanggyo branch tastes so much better than the others that we only go to this one!

Here's the exterior! Very tidy, as you'd expect from Gwanggyo. The whole neighborhood is neat and clean, so it seems like a good place for a family gathering or a date!

Parking and seating at Sekwang Yangdaechang Suwon Gwanggyo

Floors 3 to 5 of the building are a parking lot, so parking is super easy. There was plenty of room, so we parked and ate without stress, and Sekwang covers the parking fee!

The inside is really clean too. There were regular table seats and bar-table seats, and today we were shown to the bar table!

Sekwang Yangdaechang menu and side dishes

The signature dish is the mixed grill (modeum-gui) of daechang (beef large intestine), makchang (abomasum) and teugyang (premium tripe). I hear the beef short rib and brisket are good too, so this branch is also known as a Gwanggyo Lake Park meat spot.

Once you order, the side dishes come out, and wow, I've never seen so many sides at a gopchang place! There's a wide variety, plus muk-sabal (chilled acorn jelly soup). Starting a meal with cold muk-sabal on a hot day sounded so refreshing!

Mixed grill for two at ₩52,000, grilled by the staff

Our food has arrived! Let me introduce each item!

  • Mixed grill for two ₩52,000
  • Yang fried rice ₩14,000

First, the mixed grill for two: daechang, teugyang and makchang, Sekwang's signature. One side of the menu explains what each cut is, which made it easy to understand while eating!

Mixed grill for two with daechang, makchang and teugyang

Sekwang is a place where the staff grill for you, so all we had to do was eat, which was very convenient. On dates it's not easy to grill and eat at the same time, but here they grill it comfortably for you, so it seems great for dates or family gatherings.

This was the mix of daechang, makchang and teugyang, and it looked delicious from the very first look.

I don't usually prefer daechang, but Sekwang's daechang was sooo good. I think it's because they brush it with sauce while grilling, so it feels less greasy!

As for the makchang and teugyang, what can I say? Both have a great texture, and they're my favorite pair!

After cooking it partway, they cut it into bite-size pieces, brush the sauce on evenly once, and cook it again. This is the specialty of the Suwon Gwanggyo branch, and grilling it this way makes it less greasy and so delicious!

One more round of crisping and it's ready to eat!! You might think the portion looks a bit small, but once you start eating, it's not small at all.

They move the fully cooked meat to the side. Now we're really ready to eat!!! Time to dig in!!! The staff member (part-timer? the owner?) was so kind that the meal here is always a pleasant one! The table behind us seemed to like their grill guy too: one guy asked another guy for his number to have a drink later?? hahahahaha

How were the rice cake, daechang, makchang and teugyang?

I tried the rice cake first, and wow, how can a rice cake be this soft and tasty ㅜㅜ It's good on its own, but with Sekwang's special sauce brushed on it, it was even better!

Next, the daechang! Sekwang's daechang was so rich, soft and melt-in-your-mouth ㅜㅜ It's full of that fatty feel, but eaten with the sauce it wasn't greasy at all!

The makchang and teugyang were great too, though once they're cut up you can't tell them apart, hahaha. Both have a crunchy, chewy texture that's so good, and I liked that the teugyang and makchang are cut big so you can fill your mouth.

And the garlic! Sweet and fragrant, it cleanses your palate when eaten with the meats, so good!!

Is the ₩14,000 yang fried rice a must-order?

We ordered the yang fried rice too, one of the must-order sides at Sekwang! I thought about getting the one piled with cheese, but this time I tried it without cheese!

The fried rice is full of teugyang, so it's tasty on its own, but even better when you top it with the mixed grill.

They told us it's good wrapped in gim (roasted seaweed), so I tried that too, and of course, gim is good with anything... Full of seaweed aroma and nutty and delicious.

Ice cream to finish the meal

After gopchang your mouth usually feels oily, but at Sekwang you can cleanse your palate with ice cream, so the meal ends nice and clean! The ice cream was really good too, so the finish was perfect!!!

Was Sekwang Yangdaechang Suwon Gwanggyo still satisfying on a repeat visit?

True to its status as my Nth-revisit restaurant, Sekwang Yangdaechang Suwon Gwanggyo didn't let me down!!! Once again it was a super delicious Suwon gopchang spot, and honestly, the other Sekwang branches I went to weren't this good. Only the Suwon Gwanggyo branch is exceptionally tasty!

If you're looking for a Gwanggyo gopchang spot, a meat restaurant near Gwanggyo Lake Park, or a date-night restaurant near Gwanggyojungang Station, I recommend Sekwang Yangdaechang Suwon Gwanggyo~!!
