Konkuk Station dinner spot for cold soba and pork jowl bowl: Hekbap

Hekbap Konkuk University Main Branch is a budget-friendly rice bowl and Japanese restaurant on the 2nd floor at 127 Neungdong-ro, by Konkuk University Station in Gwangjin, Seoul. On a weekday evening the writer took a window seat and ordered the signature pork jowl rice bowl, the new summer cold soba and a side of mini pork cutlet for 5,500 won, ordering and paying right at the table. The smoky sauce and generous meat in the pork jowl bowl made this one of the best Hekbap branches the writer has tried.

Sangbong Korean BBQ with a salt-sauce first bite: Super Naengsam

Super Naengsam Sangbong Main Branch is a frozen pork belly restaurant in the Sangbong food alley in Jungnang, Seoul. Too lazy to cook at home on a weekend evening, the writer ordered four servings of naengsam (frozen pork belly), dipped the first bite in salt sauce, wrapped the rest in lettuce and cleared the palate with Fanta. At 9,900 won for a 150g serving, with a minari self-service bar and carefully managed spoons and chopsticks, Super Naengsam is an easy recommendation for good-value pork belly in Sangbong.
