Sangbong Korean BBQ with a salt-sauce first bite: Super Naengsam
In short
Super Naengsam Sangbong Main Branch is a frozen pork belly restaurant in the Sangbong food alley in Jungnang, Seoul. Too lazy to cook at home on a weekend evening, the writer ordered four servings of naengsam (frozen pork belly), dipped the first bite in salt sauce, wrapped the rest in lettuce and cleared the palate with Fanta. At 9,900 won for a 150g serving, with a minari self-service bar and carefully managed spoons and chopsticks, Super Naengsam is an easy recommendation for good-value pork belly in Sangbong.

On weekend evenings I'm too lazy and too mentally drained to cook at home, so I've been going to the Sangbong restaurant alley a lot lately, and among them there's a great-value frozen pork belly place I want to recommend, plainly and simply.
Super Naengsam Sangbong Main Branch / 14:30-23:00 (closed every Wednesday)

A Sangbong food alley grill house that serves naengsam only
Super Naengsam Sangbong Main Branch is a frozen pork belly (naengsam) specialty restaurant in the Sangbong food alley. The Sangbong restaurant street has all kinds of meat restaurants, but this seems to be the first naengsam specialist I've found among them.

Since it's a new spot in Sangbong, hygiene and cleanliness are a given, and once you actually visit, you also get the bonus of the owner's friendliness.

On top of that, in these days of high prices and high fuel costs, Super Naengsam Sangbong Main Branch boasts the astonishing value of 9,900 won for 150g of naengsam.

Argh, I should've only flipped the naengsam twice, but I kept flipping it and it got a bit dry and tough. I have some kind of reading impairment lately, letters just don't register... and I was supposed to get fried rice too, but I got busy stuffing my face with a bowl of rice and totally missed it. Ugh.

Super Naengsam's side dishes and kimchi: what fell short
Super Naengsam Sangbong Main Branch gives you a huge spread of side dishes. Seriously, there were so many I didn't know what to eat first, and going through them one by one is probably how I forgot about the fried rice. The kimchi was, unfortunately, the Chinese-made kind that's been a hot topic lately, but there were plenty of other good side dishes to pair with the naengsam — bean sprouts, pickled garlic, pickled onions, and more.

What really struck me is that Super Naengsam lives up to its name — there's genuinely no other meat menu at all. You'd expect pork neck or gabrisal as options, but no, it's purely focused on 9,900-won naengsam. That's today's Sangbong meat restaurant pick: Super Naengsam.

Being a new spot in Sangbong, the vibe is clean, there were plenty of customers, and the place itself felt pleasant — I think this one's going to get popular in the Sangbong restaurant alley soon.

How many servings of naengsam should two people order?
Super Naengsam Sangbong Main Branch has a minimum order of 3 servings. And finally, here's today's star: 4 servings of naengsam. Since the minimum is 3, if two of you want to eat until you're full, you really should order 4 :)

Piling bean sprouts, minari, and meat on together and grilling it just right — that's a combination no Korean could possibly dislike.

The minari self-service bar and the Hangang ramyeon machine
If you need any extra side dishes, you can freely help yourself at the Super Naengsam self-service bar. In particular, there's a ton of minari available at the self-bar, which is great news for anyone who loves minari samgyeopsal (pork belly with water dropwort). There's also a Hangang ramyeon machine that captures that riverside vibe, so trying it out could be a fun experience too.

Another thing I love about Super Naengsam: hygienic chopsticks. These days at a lot of meat restaurants you find chopsticks caked in grease and stray chili flakes, but this place keeps them so cleanly managed you can eat with confidence — extra point right there.

For some reason that kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) was so delicious that even looking at it now makes my stomach growl... I guess Chinese kimchi really does taste good because of all the seasoning added to it.

Salt sauce, lettuce wraps and a four-layer finish
For the first bite of Super Naengsam's naengsam, I tried it mild, dipped in salt sauce.

From the second bite on, I got into full lettuce-wrap mode, and I liked that no matter how I ate it, the meat's own natural flavor really came through.

A bit of Fanta to wash away any slight sogginess.

For the finale, we stacked four layers of naengsam together for a texture close to regular samgyeopsal, wrapping up today's flashy dinner at Sangbong meat restaurant Super Naengsam.

We brought over all sorts of things, but in the end, we cleaned the table completely, haha.

With prices going up these days, places that pay this much careful attention to detail are rare, and I felt the owner's thoughtfulness and I'm already looking forward to my next visit. If you're looking for a naengsam or samgyeopsal spot in the Sangbong restaurant alley, I'd recommend giving Super Naengsam Sangbong Main Branch a try :)
