Meokgol Korean restaurant: gondre rice without gochujang, Sanchaega

Sanchaega Hanjeongsik Meokgol Main Branch is a cauldron-rice Korean set meal restaurant in Muk-dong, Jungnang, Seoul, near Exit 5 of Meokgol Station. On a third visit, arriving with Mom right at opening, the writer had the 18,000 won gondre (Korean thistle) cauldron rice set with 12 side dishes, mixed the gondre rice with spicy stir-fried pork, doenjang stew broth and angelica leaves instead of gochujang, and finished with sungnyung (scorched-rice tea). Sanchaega Hanjeongsik Meokgol Main Branch is worth considering when you want a clean, tidy Korean meal with your parents.

Sagajeong market chicken shop where you order by the cut: Pyeongjeong

Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong (평정닭강정) is a market chicken shop selling dakgangjeong (sweet, crispy fried chicken bites) and old-style whole fried chicken at the entrance of Myeonmok Market, near Exit 3 of Sagajeong Station in Jungnang, Seoul. Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong also lets you order drumsticks, wings, drumettes and gizzards by the cut, so the writer took home only drumsticks and gizzards for a chicken party at home: the drumsticks were crispy outside and juicy inside, the gizzards chewy and crunchy, and both portions were generous. If you want plenty of just your favorite cuts at a friendly price, Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong in Sagajeong is the place.

Eating alone, the writer ordered the solo set with the cutlet swapped for mozzarella cheese katsu, then added a big noodle set with spicy tonkotsu ramen, a bite-size curry and a Coke Zero. The spicy tonkotsu ramen is made with Vietnamese chili and was extremely hot. Verdict: pairing cheese katsu with spicy ramen at Katsu Monster Myeonmok made for a satisfying set.

Sagajeong dakgangjeong with cheese mustard for baseball: Pyeongjeong

Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong is a takeout dakgangjeong (sweet, crispy fried chicken bites) and fried chicken shop at the entrance of Myeonmok Market, near Sagajeong Station in Jungnang, Seoul. On a visit to the shop they return to about once a month with a friend, the writer took home a medium mild dakgangjeong, fried chicken gizzards and a 500-won cheese mustard sauce to eat at home. Pyeongjeong Dakgangjeong stays crisp after takeout and its prices are easy on the wallet, which keeps bringing regulars back to this market chicken shop.
