In short
Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong is a Japanese restaurant specializing in rice-koji pot rice (sotbap), udon and tonkatsu, on B1 of Terra Tower Building A at Munjeong Station in Songpa, Seoul. With the sea bream pot rice sold out, the writer ordered the steak pot rice with tonkatsu and the perilla oil braised mushroom pot rice: rich, beefy wagyu, sticky rice fragrant with perilla oil, and a thoughtful tumbler of water for making nurungji (scorched rice) tea. Here is how the restaurant itself explains the name Gome Mui and its menu.
Gome Mui combines the Japanese "gome" (米), meaning rice, and "mui" (無二), meaning one and only, symbolizing a precious taste found nowhere else. Together with the gourmet sensibility that comes from the French word "gourmet," we aim to make even a single meal a special experience. We prepared for a long time before opening Gome Mui at Munjeong Station in Songpa. We will do our best to let you enjoy new dishes made with fresh seasonal ingredients in every season. Every dish in our restaurant is prepared with rice koji for a healthy meal. Premium Japanese-style pot rice made with a blend of top-grade rice, tonkatsu aged at low temperature in salt koji so the juices stay alive, house-simmered tsuyu and broth, and udon with top-quality noodles are all prepared with care every day.

Inside Gome Mui

The seating inside is much roomier than it looks from outside. There are more seats in a corridor-style layout, and there are bar (dacchi) seats too.
What did we order at Gome Mui?
We ordered the steak pot rice + katsu (tonkatsu, breaded pork cutlet) and the perilla oil mushroom pot rice. I had gone back and forth between the sea bream pot rice and the perilla oil mushroom rice, but the sea bream was sold out that day. Honestly, even better... (🥹) It meant I could order right away without agonizing.

So you can add water to the pot and make nurungji tea (sungnyung, scorched rice tea), they bring hot water in a tumbler!

How does the Gome Mui steak pot rice taste?
Gome Mui's signature steak pot rice is topped with wagyu, garlic chips, chopped scallion and an egg yolk, and the steak had a rich meaty aroma. The restaurant describes it as premium wagyu with a special sauce, a hearty pot rice you mix together. They also give you a large bowl for scooping out the rice.

The card on how to eat the steak pot rice
Each pot rice comes with a card explaining the best way to eat it.

They even give you a cute rice paddle.

This is the steak pot rice topped with wagyu. The garlic chips, scallion and egg yolk made it look even more generous! The steak had a rich meaty aroma.

How is the Gome Mui perilla oil mushroom pot rice?

Gome Mui's other signature dish, the perilla oil mushroom pot rice, is piled with shiitake, lotus root and neungi mushrooms. The perilla oil aroma was lovely, and above all the rice was delicious. The restaurant says the shiitake and garlic are simmered in perilla oil, then aged and tucked into sticky pot rice.

The steak pot rice and the perilla oil mushroom pot rice differ only in sauce, and the side dishes are nearly the same. The steak pot rice adds pickled chili peppers.

The perilla oil mushroom pot rice also comes with a how-to-eat card, just like the steak pot rice. A thoughtful touch.

It's a pot rice piled high with shiitake, lotus root and neungi mushrooms. The perilla oil aroma is great, and above all the rice is delicious! Scoop some rice out and mix it with perilla oil, then pour water into the pot to make nurungji tea haha >.<
Do we recommend Gome Mui for lunch near Munjeong Station?
People say pot rice is trending these days, and Gome Mui's comes out pretty and neat with a variety of toppings that makes choosing fun, so I get why. Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong also has plenty besides pot rice, so people who prefer noodles to rice won't be left disappointed. I liked that!
