Gangnam Station Korean dinner with zucchini pancake: 1992 Deopbap

Today I'm sharing my visit to 1992 Deopbap & Jjageuli Gangnam Main Branch, a great place for a hearty meal near Gangnam Station.

1992 Deopbap & Jjageuli Gangnam Main Branch has a lovely hanok (traditional Korean house) feel, and even though I visited on a weekday evening, the place was nearly full — I could tell right away it was a popular spot.

If you like Korean food, this is a Gangnam Station restaurant worth trying at least once.

1992 Deopbap & Jjageuli Gangnam Main Branch is just a short walk from Exit 3 of Gangnam Station, so it's a great spot for a solo meal or a lunch search around Gangnam Station.

There's terrace seating too, so on a nice day like this you can eat outside! Honestly, there are tons of restaurants near Gangnam Station, but when you want a really hearty rice meal, options are surprisingly limited. With a wide range of Korean menu items from rice bowls to jjageuli, this place worked well for both lunch and dinner. It felt like a Gangnam restaurant to seek out when you really want a proper meal.

Inside 1992 Deopbap: hanok-style interior, solo seats and private rooms

Walking into 1992 Deopbap & Jjageuli Gangnam Main Branch, the hanok-style interior catches your eye first. It's decorated mainly in wood tones, giving it a warm, comfortable atmosphere — it felt like more care went into the mood here than at a typical rice bowl place.

Best of all, there are plenty of solo seats so people dining alone can eat comfortably. Anyone looking for a solo dining spot near Gangnam Station should feel right at home. Of course it's not just for solo diners — there are also group tables and rooms for parties of three or more, so it works well for meals with friends or larger groups too.

Aprons are also hung up for use, which is handy when eating saucy dishes like jjageuli or rice bowls — nice if you're worried about sauce splattering on light-colored clothes.

Even though I visited on a weekday evening, the place was packed full of customers. If you're planning to visit during meal times, it might be worth going a bit early.

The menu at 1992 Deopbap and what we ordered that evening

As the name suggests, 1992 Deopbap & Jjageuli has a wide variety of rice bowl and jjageuli dishes.

There are lots of good options for meat lovers, making this a Gangnam restaurant that's especially great when you want a hearty meal.

Looking through the menu, I ordered the meat-packed jjageuli and the Jeolla-style gochujang pork rice bowl. Pairing a stew-like dish with plenty of broth alongside a well-seasoned rice bowl meant each had a different charm, and it was fun switching back and forth between the two.

Kiosk ordering and self pickup at 1992 Deopbap

Ordering is done through the kiosk in the restaurant. It wasn't complicated at all — just choose your menu items and complete payment.

Once your order is placed, your number shows up on a screen, and when it's your turn, you go pick up your food yourself!

After finishing your meal, you also bring your used dishes to the self-return station.

There was also a review event running — participating gets you a free drink, so it might be worth checking out if you visit.

How did the meat-packed jjageuli and gochujang pork rice bowl taste?

I ordered the meat-packed jjageuli and the Jeolla-style gochujang pork rice bowl. Along with the mains, three side dishes came out — pickled radish, kimchi, and dried radish strips — plus a cute mini yakgwa (honey cookie).

Eating the yakgwa at the end of the meal was a nice sweet finish.

The meat-packed jjageuli lived up to its name, with a generous amount of meat that made it really filling. The spicy broth blended well with the meat and seasoning, pairing perfectly with plain rice — spicy and savory, and it also went great mixed with egg rice.

It's tasty whether you mix the broth lightly into rice or pile the meat on top for a bite — a satisfying dish for anyone who loves Korean food.

The Jeolla-style gochujang pork rice bowl had a nice balance of sweet-spicy gochujang seasoning and savory pork flavor.

The seasoning mixed naturally into the rice, giving a bold flavor with every bite, and the combination of meat and rice made it plenty filling.

The steamed egg we also ordered had a mild flavor that paired well with the strongly seasoned rice bowl.

The braised zucchini pancake we added as a side came out as 4 pieces and was perfect to eat alongside everything else.

Final thoughts and the self-serve bar with mouthwash

Both dishes had that appealing rich seasoning that goes so well with rice, so it felt like a properly hearty meal. It made sense why the place was packed even on a weekday evening — the menu, the taste, and the atmosphere were all satisfying.

After finishing the meal, you can freely use the wet wipes, candy, and mouthwash laid out below the water dispenser.

Since this place has a lot of strongly seasoned dishes like jjageuli, having mouthwash ready for after the meal felt like a thoughtful touch. It's a small detail, but it left an impression as a considerate gesture toward customers.
