Chodaechang Dangsan Station is a charcoal-grilled gopchang (beef small intestine) restaurant on the 2nd floor right outside Exits 11 and 12 of Dangsan Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. On a return visit, two people ordered 2 servings of gopchang and 1 serving of teukyang (premium beef tripe), and Chodaechang staff handled everything from setting up the charcoal to grilling and cutting, so the meal was relaxed and easy to chat over. With gopchang packed with rich filling, chewy teukyang and free corkage, Chodaechang Dangsan Station is a solid pick for a group dinner.

Cheese fish cake stew and Saero Omija soju: Yeongdeungpo bar Yeokjeon

Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Yeongdeungpo is a retro pojangmacha bar in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, a 5-minute walk from Yeongdeungpo Station and open until 1am on weekdays and 3am on Fridays and Saturdays. Stopping in for a second round after a meat dinner, the writer ordered Majang-dong hanwoo yukhoe (raw beef tartare) at 24,900 won and a fish cake stew at 14,900 won loaded with cheese fish cake and yubu (fried tofu) pouches, plus the new Saero Omija soju. The omija soju tasted more like bubblegum than tart berry, but the generous yukhoe, hearty stew and 3,900 won soju deal make Yeokjeon Pojangmacha a solid second-round bar.

Yeongdeungpo BBQ with refillable scallop jeotgal: Choryang Saenggalbi

Choryang Saenggalbi is a fresh pork rib restaurant on the food alley a three-minute walk from Exit 4 of Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station in Seoul. This return visit started with two servings of fresh pork ribs and added one serving of imperial cut, with staff grilling from start to finish and house-made scallop jeotgal (salted scallop relish) plus a complimentary kimchi stew on the table. The unseasoned fresh ribs were clean and mild with no porky smell, so Choryang Saenggalbi held up just as well the second time around.
