Gogikkun Gim Chunbae Hongdae Main Branch (고기꾼김춘배 홍대본점) is a Korean BBQ restaurant on the 3rd floor of a building on the Hongdae strip in Mapo, Seoul, serving both hanwoo (Korean beef) and handon (Korean pork). The writer went with her older sister and younger sibling, ordered the hanwoo/handon set for 2 with half-and-half naengmyeon (cold noodles) and kkakttukbap (radish kimchi rice), and grilled the meat in an old-school dining room. Verdict: the meat quality and juiciness were excellent, and the spicy kkakttukbap and half-and-half naengmyeon are must-orders.

Yeonam Charcoal-Grilled Pork Backbone & Gamjatang is a pork bone grill and gamjatang (pork bone stew) restaurant in the Daeheung-dong food alley in Jung-gu, Daejeon. The writer ordered a medium half-and-half pork bone grill (sauce and salt) with rice. The writer was pleased with the free tasting broth, served in its own earthenware pot, and with the meaty bones, then took the leftover pork bones home as a late-night snack. Verdict: Yeonam's half-and-half pork bone grill is generous, tasty and a dish worth ordering again.

Yuseong Korean restaurant: kimchi stew & self-bar tofu — Jeonju House

Cement Hannam-daebonjeom (씨멘트 한남대본점) is a hip, vintage-style pizza and pasta restaurant in Ojeong-dong, Daedeok-gu, Daejeon, near Hannam University. On a visit with Mom, the writer ordered a potato pizza, a rosé tonkatsu and a blue lemonade. The potato pizza was a satisfying sweet-and-salty combination, and the rosé tonkatsu came thick, crispy outside and juicy inside, alongside chicken karaage. Cement Hannam-daebonjeom is a Western restaurant near Hannam University that delivers on atmosphere, value and taste.
