Daejeon noodle restaurant, kongguksu and kalguksu: Sindo Kalguksu
In short
Sindo Kalguksu Jungchon branch is a noodle restaurant in Jungchon-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon that has been serving since 1961. We ordered both the house kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) and the summer kongguksu (chilled soybean noodle soup), finding chewy noodles in a mild, clean broth and a thick, nutty soybean soup. Sindo Kalguksu is the meal to book when you want something gentle after too much spicy food.

Today's post is about Sindo Kalguksu Jungchon branch, located in Jungchon-dong, Daejeon.

This is the kind of place that comes to mind whenever you're craving noodles — a spot where you can enjoy both a savory yet clean kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) broth and a rich, refreshing kongguksu (chilled soybean noodle soup), which is why people visit year-round regardless of season. Today I'll share a detailed review of my visit to the long-running Sindo Kalguksu.
Sindo Kalguksu Jungchon branch: hours and location in Daejeon
Sindo Kalguksu Jungchon branch is on the 1st floor of 679-1 Daejeoncheonseo-ro, Jung-gu, Daejeon, South Korea. Business hours are 10:30 – 21:00, with a break time from 15:00 – 17:00, last order at 20:30, and it's closed every Monday.
It's been a go-to kalguksu spot in Daejeon since 1961, known for its clean broth kalguksu and refreshing kongguksu.

Where to park at Sindo Kalguksu
There's a dedicated parking lot, which made it easy to visit by car. A spacious parking area is set up right behind the store.

Inside the restaurant and what we ordered
Walking inside, the space was bigger and better organized than I expected. Even though it wasn't peak time, the place was pretty busy — you could really feel the popularity Sindo Kalguksu has earned over the years. We ordered the two signature menu items: kalguksu and kongguksu.

Side dishes and the self-serve bar
We got two basic side dishes, and they were genuinely delicious — the kind that paired really well with the clean kalguksu. If you wanted more, there was a self-serve bar, which was nice.

How does the kalguksu at Sindo Kalguksu taste?
The moment I tasted the signature kalguksu, it all made sense — why it's been loved for so long. The noodles were wonderfully chewy, and above all, the broth had a truly mild flavor. It wasn't the least bit sharp, but deep and clean — the kind of bowl that made my stomach feel at ease, like a true example of what 'clean-tasting' really means.

Kongguksu, the summer chilled soybean noodle soup
We also tried the kongguksu, an essential summer specialty. The moment I took a bite, the thick, nutty soybean broth filled my mouth with nuttiness, and I could taste the soybean's natural clean, plain flavor without anything artificial. It went well with the chewy noodles too, perfect for enjoying something cool on a hot day, and I didn't get tired of it even down to the last bite.
Final verdict on Sindo Kalguksu Jungchon branch
Between the clean kalguksu that soothes a palate worn out by spicy food and the rich, nutty kongguksu, this was a satisfying meal overall. I could really feel why it's been loved by Daejeon locals for so long — the carefully brewed broth and consistent flavor left a strong impression.
If you're looking for a filling yet unfussy meal, I'd recommend Sindo Kalguksu in Jungchon-dong. With both kalguksu and the summer specialty kongguksu on the menu, it's a place that might come to mind no matter the season.
