What kind of place is Ciment Chungnam National University Branch?
Ciment Chungnam National University Branch is a Western restaurant in Gung-dong, Daejeon, where you can pick pizza, pork cutlet or pasta all in one go. I found it while searching for a Western restaurant in Gung-dong, and went! I usually take forever to decide on a single dish, but this place seemed perfect for people who want pizza, cutlet and pasta all at once. It looked good for going with a friend or for a date, so I arrived with high hopes!

Inside Ciment and the atmosphere
The inside is bigger than I expected, with plenty of space between tables. I was surprised by how spacious it was the moment I walked in. It didn't feel stuffy at all, and everything was kept neat and clean, so eating there was really comfortable!

It's casual but has a nice vibe, a good fit for friends or couples alike!

What did I order at Ciment?
I ordered the spicy tomato pork cutlet (donkatsu), a half-and-half pizza of potato and chipotle shrimp, and a pink grapefruit ade. The menu runs from cutlets to risotto, pasta and pizza, so I agonized over what to eat for a long time... For the half-and-half pizza I went with the potato pizza I was so curious about and the chipotle shrimp pizza!

Plates and forks were already set when I sat down, which was handy!
Water and sauces are self-serve, so you can take only what you need, which I liked too!

How is the pink grapefruit ade?
The pink grapefruit ade had just the right balance of tangy and sweet, and went well with the rich dishes. It arrived first, and the soft pink color made it so pretty. One sip and the grapefruit tang and sweetness came together to cleanse the palate, and it paired so well with the oily dishes that I kept sipping it throughout the meal!

Then the spicy tomato cutlet and the half-and-half pizza I'd been waiting for finally arrived! The table filled up in an instant and it all looked so appetizing. The plating was neat too, and just looking at it made me hungry!

How was the potato and chipotle shrimp half-and-half pizza?
Of the half-and-half pizzas, the potato pizza is the one I'd urge you to order. The reviews raved about it so I had huge expectations, and I understood right away why everyone recommends it.
Please, please order the potato pizza... It's loaded with french fries, so the texture was great, and it went really well with the savory cheese. It was mild yet rich in flavor, and I reached for another slice right after finishing one. Personally it was one of the most memorable dishes of the day!
The chipotle shrimp pizza had its own charm! You could really feel the bite of plump shrimp, and the gentle spiciness of chipotle kept it from being greasy. Even though both are pizza, the vibe was completely different, so alternating between them was fun.

How are the spicy tomato cutlet and karaage?
The spicy tomato cutlet had thick meat and a crispy coating, which I was happy with. The thick meat gave a satisfying chew and the batter was fried crisp, so the texture was great. You could even hear the crunch when cutting it with the knife!

The tomato sauce had a deep flavor with a moderate kick of spice, so I never got tired of it until the end! It has a different charm from regular cutlet sauce, and thanks to the freshness of the tomato it was hardly greasy at all. The more sauce I dipped in, the better it got!

The karaage (Japanese-style fried chicken) served with the cutlet deserves a mention too! Crispy outside and juicy inside, it was quite good for a side dish. Alternating with the cutlet gave different textures, so I enjoyed it all the way to the end!
