Simsuljip Konkuk University Entrance Main Branch is a Korean pub near Konkuk Univ. Station that serves a wide range of Korean dishes to go with drinks. I hadn't been in a while, so I went with a friend from Konkuk Univ. Station, and it turned out to have lots of Korean anju (drinking food) and a great atmosphere. It's also very popular even on a hot-spot street packed with pubs, so we didn't hesitate and just went in.

Simsuljip Konkuk University Entrance Main Branch is on the main alley of the Konkuk Univ. Station Food Street!! Even the signboard is unusual compared with the other pubs, so I think it would catch your eye even if you were just walking past without thinking.

What are the atmosphere and interior like?

The inside has a striking European-style interior, and it's clean and spacious, so it seemed great for big groups too. It's a good pub for friends, but I think it would also work well for a fun date with a partner.

Between the tidy, antique-style European decor, there were all sorts of small props that show the owner's interior design sense. I'd never seen a pub with masks hanging on the wall before, and it was so fascinating that my eyes kept going back to them.

Menu and how to order at Simsuljip

At Simsuljip Konkuk University Entrance Main Branch, you can order and call staff easily with the tablet at each table. From soups and stews to fried dishes, jeon (Korean pan-fried pancakes) and simple snacks!! There's a huge variety of anju, which made choosing fun. I also liked that, as a pub known for Korean food, the menu is mostly Korean dishes.

The basic side dishes were set out quickly right after we ordered. Maybe because we ordered the shop's signature beef suyuk (boiled sliced beef) hot pot, they even brought extra banchan (side dishes) that probably don't normally come out, and they said the hot pot automatically comes with a sauce and rice noodles too.

How are the taste and portion of the beef suyuk hot pot (₩29,000)?

The beef suyuk hot pot is ₩29,000 and is one of the signature dishes at Simsuljip Konkuk University Entrance Main Branch!! The generous amount of beef and the rich broth stood out. Even two people struggle to finish it, the portion is that big, and it tasted so good that I'd personally call it the best dish and want everyone to order it at least once.

They said you can boil it a bit longer at the table and then eat it right away as anju. Seeing it in a video rather than a photo, the look of it is definitely even more crazy, right?! Since it's a broth dish, it feels like it pairs better with soju than beer. The quality is so good that it feels like a hot pot from a specialty restaurant rather than a pub, so I think anyone can enjoy it without any likes or dislikes getting in the way.

Adding rice noodles and free broth refills

After you've eaten a fair amount of the beef suyuk hot pot, add the rice noodles they gave you at the start and boil them. Another surprise was that they refill the broth as much as you want!! Since the rich broth is the star of this hot pot, enjoy plenty of that tasty soup too!!

With such good anju ordered, we naturally ordered a bottle of Chumchurum soju on the day we visited!!

Spicy chicken feet pyeonyuk (₩12,000): can you adjust the spice level?

The spicy chicken feet pyeonyuk (pressed sliced meat) is ₩12,000, and you can ask the staff to adjust the spice level before ordering. The default is said to be about as spicy as Shin Ramyun. Since we'd already ordered a hot pot, I picked the spicy chicken feet as one more simple dish.

My friend doesn't handle spicy food well, so we ordered it a little less spicy than the default. Maybe because of the milder heat, I tasted sweetness and spice together, and just like the hot pot, it was fantastic as a soju anju. The price is cheaper than I expected, so I recommend it as a simple side dish.

Would I go back to Simsuljip Konkuk University Entrance Main Branch?

It had been a while since I visited this hot-spot pub near Konkuk Univ., Simsuljip Konkuk University Entrance Main Branch!! The atmosphere was great and the Korean anju tasted wonderful, so next time I'm looking for a pub in Konkuk Univ. with a friend, I plan to come back.
