In short
Choryang Hyeongje Galbi (초량형제갈비) is a pork galbi restaurant in the Choryang galbi alley in Dong-gu, Busan. After an errand at the Busan Ilbo building by Busanjin Station, I stopped in for the 13,000-won lunch special of pork galbi, rice, doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), steamed egg, kimchi pancake and side dishes, and the pork galbi the owner grilled was tender, with a sweet-salty marinade that went well with rice. Today I had some business at the Busan Ilbo building near Busanjin Station, from 11:00 to 11:40 in the morning.

Lunchtime was already coming up and I was wondering what to eat, so I decided on pork galbi (marinated pork ribs) in Choryang 😊 But there are so many pork galbi places in Choryang, right? If you can't decide where to go in the galbi alley, look not only at the taste of the meat but at how full the whole meal is.

What impressed me at Choryang Hyeongje Galbi (초량형제갈비) this time was the lunch special: pork galbi with rice, doenjang (fermented soybean paste) stew, steamed egg and even kimchi pancake.

A spread that was worth every won of ₩13,000! Let me share what I felt after actually eating it, and why people come here.

What comes in the ₩13,000 lunch special at Choryang Hyeongje Galbi?
The pork galbi lunch special at Choryang Hyeongje Galbi is ₩13,000, and the basics are pork galbi, rice and doenjang stew. On top of that came steamed egg, kimchi pancake and a variety of side dishes.
It didn't feel like a meal that ends with just meat. It felt like a proper warm table for a real meal. The steamed egg and kimchi pancake especially made the spread feel even richer.

To get this much for ₩13,000, I thought I'd chosen the right lunch.
How does the pork galbi taste?
The pork galbi at Choryang Hyeongje Galbi was tender to chew, and the marinade was sweet and salty at once. After all, the meat is the most important thing, right?

The sweet and salty flavors blended well, which made it perfect to eat with rice. The seasoning didn't stick out too much and went well with the meat, so I kept reaching for one more piece.

Pork galbi grilled by the owner
When it isn't busy, the owner grills the meat for you at Choryang Hyeongje Galbi, and I liked that they even told me how to eat it best. Thanks to that, I could focus on eating rather than worrying about cooking the meat.

Changing it up with wraps and sauce
The pork galbi here is good on its own, but wrapped in a leaf (ssam) it gets the crunch of fresh vegetables and a different charm. Dipping it in the sauce that came with it worked well too.

It was fun how the same meat tastes different depending on what you eat it with.

How were the doenjang stew and the sides in the lunch special?
The doenjang stew that came with the meat in the lunch special stuck with me too. Its savory flavor was rich and went well with rice.
Taking a spoonful of the stew between bites of sweet pork galbi was a great combination. With the steamed egg, kimchi pancake and side dishes, I couldn't think of a single thing that felt lacking.
If you're looking for a Choryang pork galbi restaurant and care about the whole meal, not just the meat, the lunch special is worth a look.

Next time I want to try the raw galbi too

There are plenty of choices in the Choryang pork galbi alley, but Choryang Hyeongje Galbi is memorable for its filling lunch special and tender meat. Thanks to the owner grilling it and sharing tips, I could enjoy the meat even more.

Next time I'm curious about raw galbi, which has a different charm from the marinated kind.
