Macheonchwi (마천취), a Chinese restaurant in Mannyeon-dong, Daejeon, is a place the writer keeps going back to again and again. I set up a last-minute weekday lunch with a junior colleague after a long time, and after agonizing over where to go, I just said, "Chinese?? Let's go!" and that was that. Hahaha 🎵 So off we went to my go-to spot yet again, Macheonchwi~! 🩵

Today I'm writing an honest review of Macheonchwi, a Daejeon Chinese restaurant in Mannyeon-dong that's well known around town. 🥰🥳🎶

How long is the weekday lunch wait at Macheonchwi?

We arrived right at lunchtime on a weekday and there were already two parties ahead of us, with every seat taken. T_T Oh no~~ It's a weekday, not even a special day, and it's still full! 😱 Typical for a popular Daejeon restaurant, I thought. 👏👏👏🎶💜

I go here often with friends and with people from work. It's my own Daejeon Chinese restaurant that I keep craving no matter how much I eat.

One party was ahead of us for a good while, then I was second in line~!! After waiting about 15 minutes, the line cleared and we got in.

What we ordered at Macheonchwi

• Peking-style tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), small
• Mapo tofu rice bowl

What should we eat?? We debated, but it's Chinese food, so tangsuyuk was a must. Hahaha So we ordered the small Peking-style tangsuyuk and the mapo tofu rice bowl~!

Macheonchwi's Peking-style tangsuyuk came out generously piled with plenty of chewy pork.

🎵 Dip or pour?!!! Isn't that the eternal debate? We went with pour (bumeok, sauce poured over)~!! Hahaha

Even after pouring the sauce on, it didn't go soggy and the crunch was still there. Wow~!!!

It was totally my style. 🫶👏👏👏 If you're looking for a good place in Mannyeon-dong, I really recommend trying this tangsuyuk.

Mapo tofu rice bowl that makes the rice disappear

The mapo tofu in Macheonchwi's rice bowl is soaked through with sauce, and mixing it with the rice was pure bliss. The mapo tofu is, as always~~~~

I'm not even a big rice person, but the rice just slid down. It was so good that my spoon kept going back for more, and I inhaled a whole bowl of mapo tofu rice. Hahaha
