Songgane Wang Jokbal Bossam Changwon Station Branch (송가네왕족발보쌈 창원역점) is a jokbal and bossam spot that has held its ground in Palyong-dong, Changwon, since 1992. It's only June but it had been sweltering, then the rain kept coming and the heat finally eased up. So in a gap between showers I finally went for a run after ages, and I stopped at the jokbal place I'd been eyeing every time I ran past it‼️🙌🏻

Opening hours and parking

Songgane is open 14:00–24:00 (last order 23:00) and closed every Sunday. They say they take groups, reservations, takeout, delivery, kids' chairs and the high fuel price relief subsidy.

There's room for about 3 cars in front, roadside parking works too, and there are two public car parks 2 minutes away on foot, so parking was no big worry👀 We parked on the roadside‼️

Inside: atmosphere and seating

Every table is separated by partitions, and there's a room-like space off to one side, so it suits gatherings and company dinners too. As a 34-year-old Changwon veteran, the interior shows its age, which gives it real Changwon jokbal-joint vibes👀 Look at the colors on that menu photo, this is a local favorite 👍🏻 The place isn't huge, but I liked that it gives you your own private space.

A good spot in Palyong-dong to watch the World Cup over jokbal?

There's a big screen, so it's perfect for watching football while eating jokbal🔥 They say they use only 100% domestic front legs. With World Cup fever running high right now, it's ideal.

The day we visited it was Argentina vs. Austria, and wow... Messi is incredible. No wonder they call him a legend🔥🔥🔥 Everyone, come eat jokbal and watch the games! I was dying from the run, and now that I can breathe again I'm dying of hunger... jokbal, please, quick.

Ordering the chilled set and the side dishes

Songgane has set menus, so we ordered the large chilled set (냉족세트: chilled jokbal + bossam) and added makguksu (buckwheat noodles), which jokbal can't do without🐷 The sides come as pickled onion and ssam vegetables, cool bean sprout soup and cabbage salad, plus chewy dried radish strips and bossam kimchi, the essentials for jokbal and bossam‼️

While waiting, I chugged the whole cold bean sprout soup as a palate cleanser, hahahaha. Watching the match while waiting, luckily my stomach's alarm clock nagged me less.

Ta-da, it's here‼️ They light a candle inside the bossam dish so you can eat it warm. Nice touch😚

How are the chilled jokbal and makguksu?

The set had glossy, moist bossam and cool, tangy chilled jokbal generously topped with cucumber, onion, bell pepper, pear and jellyfish, and I really liked it. The makguksu was unusual: not bright red but kind of tangy, with raisins in it. A one-of-a-kind makguksu.

Personally, Songgane's chilled jokbal is totally my type! I love mustard sauce, and the way it's laid moist underneath the jokbal earns a pass stamp from me right at the sight of it.

Even the small makguksu is a big portion

The makguksu actually comes already mixed, and I fiddled around trying to portion it onto our small plates🤫 We ordered the small, but there's so much 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ For a second I panicked, thinking we'd ordered the large. I'm so full I could die.

Chilled jokbal with mustard sauce pooled underneath, so exactly my taste. For Palyong-dong jokbal in Changwon, Songgane it is!

Verdict: a jokbal restaurant worth visiting near Changwon Station?

Songgane's chilled jokbal with crunchy vegetables and jellyfish has great texture and blends beautifully with the sharp mustard aroma, so we wolfed it down‼️ It pairs well with the makguksu too, so it's easy to eat together, and the mild bossam with bossam kimchi is a truly perfect combo🐷 It tasted even better after exercise. If you're looking for a Palyong-dong jokbal place or a good spot near Changwon Station, I recommend Songgane Wang Jokbal Bossam 👍🏻
