Windshield oil-film remover tested solo: AutoGrooming 120g

When I took my car in for a wash, I was told that the oil film needed to be removed. I had been putting it off, but I decided to try it myself with AutoGrooming Windshield Oil Film Remover. Since it was my first time, what I was most curious about was whether I could do it alone.

Which size did I choose, and what did I need?

The product I used was AutoGrooming Windshield Oil Film Remover 120g. It was about ₩9,900 at the time of the original post.

There was also a 300g version, which was about ₩19,800. Since this was my first try, I chose the smaller size.

The product came with a dedicated towel. I liked not having to prepare a separate towel for scrubbing.

What was my DIY oil-film removal process?

The order I followed was removing grime, spraying water, applying the solution, scrubbing, and rinsing. At the end, I wiped away the remaining water.

• I removed grime from the entire window, then sprayed on plenty of water to wet it thoroughly.
• I sprayed the oil-film remover evenly over the wet glass. It spread farther than I expected, so I could work with a moderate amount.
• I carefully scrubbed the entire window several times with the dedicated towel.
• I rinsed thoroughly with clean water so that no solution remained.
• I wiped away the remaining water to finish.

Rather than cleaning just one spot and calling it done, I repeated the same process over the whole window. While scrubbing, the rounded patches of oil film seemed to gradually disappear.

Did splitting the window in half show a difference?

To check the difference, I divided the window in half. I removed the oil film on the left side and left the right side as it was, then sprayed the same amount of water on both sides.

There were hardly any water droplets on the side where I had removed the oil film. Droplets gathered in little beads on the other side, so I could see the difference right away.

Afterward, the glass looked cleaner and my view felt better, too. I thought I would notice a difference when driving in the rain as well.

I also liked that it is a product that does not cause white discoloration on rubber parts.

Could a first-timer do it alone?

At first, I thought oil-film removal would be difficult. Once I actually tried it, though, it was manageable enough for me to finish on my own, and the process was simpler than I expected.

For me, the price of the small size was not burdensome, and the included dedicated towel made it a good option for a first attempt. Above all, I was satisfied because I could visibly see the difference between the treated area and the untouched area.
