Staff-picked escape room in Hongdae for scared couples: Cube Escape

In short

Cube Escape Hongdae Branch is an escape room café on the 4th floor of the Mugwang Building at 15 Yanghwa-ro 16-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul. A couple with little escape room experience and a low tolerance for scares asked the staff to walk them through the themes and picked Hansel and Gretel, a fairytale room rated medium-low difficulty with no horror, then escaped using a few hints. Cube Escape Hongdae Branch works well as an indoor date in Hongdae even if you scare easily.

The weather's been great lately, but honestly, just wandering around outside gets tiring fast and the same old course gets boring. So this time, my boyfriend and I decided to find something in hot Hongdae that would get our brains working and make some memories together!

We went for an escape room game, a quirky date activity everyone loves regardless of age (,,>᎑<,,). Among the countless escape rooms in Hongdae, we picked Cube Escape Hongdae Branch, one of the top-ranked spots on Hongdae escape room café rankings, known for being solid and fun.

Honestly, I'm a huge scaredy-cat and don't have much escape room experience, so I was torn before picking a theme.

Checking the info board while deciding on a theme

I was worried that if I picked wrong and it turned out too hard or too scary, we'd end up giving up halfway through. But the staff gave us such detailed recommendations and explanations for each theme that it was such a relief ◜◡◝

Hansel and Gretel: no horror, medium-low difficulty

After hearing the explanations, we finally picked the fairytale-concept theme called Hansel and Gretel! This theme is rated 'medium-low' difficulty, making it perfect for beginners, couples on a date, or families with kids—and best of all, the horror level is completely 'none,' so even scaredy-cats like me can dive in worry-free › ̫‹

The escape prize changes depending on how many hints you use! Honestly, how does anyone escape without using any hints at all... ( ɵ̥̥ ˑ̫ ɵ̥̥)

Rules briefing and the practice game before you enter

After a quick briefing on the guidelines from staff, we even played a practice game while waiting.

Fairytale interior and how hard the puzzles are

The moment we stepped inside, the interior was decorated so charmingly and immersively, like we'd literally walked into a fairytale!

The puzzles were genuinely fun to work through step by step, finding hints along the way, with nothing that felt forced or unfair. Maybe because the difficulty was medium-low, using hints appropriately meant the puzzles clicked into place, and the thrill of escaping was seriously exciting. Especially since there was zero horror, it was just so enjoyable!
