Why I came to Bored & Hungry Mapo for a Daeheung lunch

Bored & Hungry Mapo is a handmade burger restaurant near Daeheung Station, on the Gyeongui Line Forest Park side, and I visited at lunchtime on a nice weekday. On burger-craving days I head to a handmade burger place rather than a franchise, because you can really taste how the patty and ingredients come together. The weather was great, so I went to Gyeongui Line Forest Park at lunchtime and stopped by this Daeheung Station burger spot!

Bored & Hungry Mapo hours and location

Bored & Hungry Mapo is at 36 Gwangseong-ro 6-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, on the 1st floor, and is open daily 11:00–20:50. Break time is 15:50–17:00, last orders are at 15:10 and 20:10, and dine-in, takeout and delivery are all available. They say corkage is free.

It's a handy spot for planning your route before or after a meal. You don't need a grand date plan: just enjoy a handmade burger and walk Gyeongui Line Forest Park, an easy way to spend time!! When I arrived on a weekday lunch, it was almost full, with people eating. The vibe was comfortable and the smell of handmade burgers was so good that my expectations shot up. What a smell~

At Bored & Hungry Mapo I ordered one handmade burger per person, plus sides and drinks. I'd been looking forward to this Sinchon-area burger place, so I got greedy with the order.

What does the Salt & Pepper Vanilla Shake taste like?

The Salt & Pepper Vanilla Shake at Bored & Hungry Mapo is a vanilla shake drizzled with olive oil and topped with salt and pepper. The drink arrived before the burgers, and surprisingly it was the item I was most excited about!! Among the sweet vanilla there's a slightly different flavor, so it's nice to sip like a dessert and, unexpectedly, it goes well with the burgers!!

And the Budweiser draft beer you can't skip with a handmade burger. Burger and draft beer needs no explanation. Take a bite of burger, then a sip of cold draft beer, and the heaviness gets cleaned up so you can eat even more, haha

How is the Classic Cheese Single Burger?

The Classic Cheese Single Burger at Bored & Hungry Mapo really lets you feel the charm of a basic cheeseburger. The handmade burgers arrived, finally!!!! Holding the burger to fit in one bite, the patty's flavor and the savory cheese blended so naturally, and you can focus on the taste of the handmade patty. Solidly delicious right from the basic menu!!!!

How big is the shrimp patty in the Shrimp Burger?

The Shrimp Burger at Bored & Hungry Mapo grabs your eye with the size of its shrimp patty alone. Of the burgers near Daeheung Station, this was the one I personally looked forward to most, and the shrimp patty is huge from the first look........ (Can I even eat it in one bite?????)

Inside the thick fried patty, the shrimp is packed in heavily with no gaps, and the shrimp's signature bouncy texture comes through, so the texture pops!!! You can enjoy the texture and flavor of shrimp to your heart's content, so it was a very satisfying handmade burger.

Are the chili cheese sticks and corn ribs worth getting?

The chili cheese sticks at Bored & Hungry Mapo are crispy outside with stretchy cheese inside. With a handmade burger you have to try the sides too, and chili cheese sticks sound like a natural match for a burger by name alone!!! Super crispy outside, with cheese stretching out in long strands inside.. With the cheese and chili flavors, they were great to break apart and pick at like a side dish while eating the burger, and the match with the Budweiser draft beer I ordered was crazy good.

Corn ribs instead of fries

The corn ribs at Bored & Hungry Mapo are whole corn roasted with seasoning, so they're clearly different from the usual french fries. If you want an unusual side, corn ribs are a must-try too!! They're roasted crisp with the seasoning, the kernels come off cleanly, and the chewy kernels burst one by one, so delicious. Especially with beer, it feels less like a meal and more like a quick bite at a casual pub. A daytime beer, of course >,<

Free corn salad

The free corn salad at Bored & Hungry Mapo was good for cutting the richness. The burgers and sides are rich overall, so having something fresh like corn salad alongside works as a side that resets your mouth every now and then!!

Gyeongui Line Forest walk and Daeheung lunch: Bored & Hungry Mapo review

Bored & Hungry Mapo was a great Daeheung lunch spot for handmade burgers and draft beer in a casual atmosphere after heading out to Gyeongui Line Forest Park. We picked contrasting burgers, the Classic Cheese Single Burger and the Shrimp Burger, and shared them with sides for a nicely varied meal, and being able to have draft beer too made this Daeheung lunch even more satisfying!!

If you want a different lunch from the usual Sinchon options, or a day for a tasty burger along with a Gyeongui Line Forest walk, I highly recommend Bored & Hungry~~~~
