Hapjeong Korean BBQ weekday lunch set: salt-grilled pork for 3, Daemok
In short
Daemok (대목) is a pork barbecue restaurant on Yanghwa-ro 6-gil near Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul, serving a weekday lunch set that pairs grilled pork with a meal dish. The writer ordered Daemok's lunch special salt-seasoned grilled pork set for 3 with doenjang stew (soybean paste stew), kimchi fried rice and seaweed soup, and staff grilled the Suwon-style salted pork from start to finish, leaving it clean and mild in flavor. For a hearty meat lunch in Hapjeong instead of the usual soup and rice, the Daemok lunch set is a satisfying pick.

Can you eat Korean BBQ at Daemok on a weekday lunch?
Daemok (대목), a pork BBQ place near Hapjeong Station, serves a lunch set on weekdays so you can enjoy grilled meat at midday. On weekdays I usually grab a quick gukbap (rice soup) or a stew, but the weather was so nice that I really wanted to grill some meat~ So I went to Daemok, a famous Hapjeong Station BBQ spot, for the lunch set!!

Daemok is easy to reach from Hapjeong Station, so it works well for a lunch meetup. It's open from lunch through dinner every day, which makes this Hapjeong Station BBQ spot good for dates, group meals and company dinners alike!!

Daemok by day and by night
This time I came for the weekday lunch set, but in the evening Daemok has outdoor-style seating (yajang), a Hapjeong vibe spot! Hapjeong's lively energy plus a BBQ restaurant atmosphere suits after-work meals and drinks. Tidy lunch sets by day, meat and drinks in the evening at this Hapjeong yajang BBQ place!
What does the Daemok lunch set include?
I chose the lunch special salt-seasoned grilled pork set for 3 people. It isn't just meat on its own; you can add meal dishes too, so it was a hearty order.
For the meal dishes I picked doenjang stew (soybean paste stew), kimchi fried rice and miyeok-guk (seaweed soup). Rather than one meat with a single meal dish, getting several lets everyone choose to their taste, which is great when eating lunch with a group.

Side dishes and the salt-grilled pork
The lunch set came with five neat side dishes, and they were so tasty with rice. The salt-seasoned grilled pork is made from carefully selected pork with Suwon-style salt seasoning, and it had a milder, cleaner charm than I expected!

You taste the pork's own flavor with the salty seasoning added on top, so it isn't harsh and goes well with rice. Another plus at Daemok: the staff grill everything themselves from start to finish, so it's easy and delicious!!

Daemok's weekday lunch salt-grilled pork was more satisfying than I expected. It's not a meat-only lunch: the doenjang stew, kimchi fried rice and seaweed soup I picked came out with the meat, so it was filling, generous and very satisfying.

How were the doenjang stew, kimchi fried rice and seaweed soup?
Doenjang stew packed with chunks of pork
Doenjang stew is a must when you eat meat!! Taking a spoonful of hot broth between bites of grilled meat at Daemok was such a perfect match~ Since it's a BBQ place, the stew was loaded with big chunks of pork, and it was a really delicious doenjang stew.

Kimchi fried rice that surprisingly matched the salt-grilled pork
Surprisingly, the kimchi fried rice at Daemok went really well with the salt-grilled pork. Kimchi fried rice at a BBQ place is hard to skip, and eating a piece of meat with it was salty yet cut the richness, so my hand kept reaching for more. It was my first time having kimchi fried rice with chunks of pork in it, so it was even more amazing.

Seaweed soup for a comforting side
Add the seaweed soup and the whole Daemok lunch table was truly packed! If the doenjang stew is a rich broth that pairs with meat, the seaweed soup feels gentler and easier to sip alongside. Even the seaweed soup, without exception, had loads of pork in it. Daebak!

Is Daemok also good for a dinner get-together?
Daemok feels like it flows naturally from lunch into dinner, so if you're looking for a Hapjeong spot for a company dinner, check out the evening menu too! There are assorted platters with pork belly, pork neck, kkurit-sal (a pork shoulder cut), hangjeong-sal (pork jowl) and more, so you can keep lunch simple with a set and enjoy the Hapjeong yajang BBQ vibe at dinner, which is perfect.

Would I recommend Daemok's lunch set for lunch in Hapjeong?
Having the lunch set at Daemok, a Hapjeong Station pork specialist, gave me quality salt-grilled pork plus meal dishes for a filling lunch. If you want something different for a lunch meetup in Hapjeong, or a day when you want proper, high-quality pork near Hapjeong Station, I really recommend Daemok and its great atmosphere!! You can also enjoy it as a Hapjeong yajang BBQ spot in the evening, so I'll definitely be back~~~~
