In short

Extra Mile (엑스트라마일) is a pizza and pasta restaurant near Gwangalli Beach in Suyeong, Busan. On a beach outing with Hoya, a pizza-loving child, the writer ordered a potato and birria taco half-and-half pizza for ₩26,000 with no extra charge for the split, plus a white ragu pasta with mafaldine noodles for ₩18,000, and they passed the time on the coloring mat and in the fig tree yard. Extra Mile's potato pizza was by far the best potato pizza the writer has ever had.

What is Extra Mile in Gwangalli like?

Extra Mile (엑스트라마일) is a Western-style restaurant in Gwangalli, a follow-up to Freewell Pizza in Jeonpo-dong, Pickles and Upper East Bakery. My kid Hoya asked for pizza on our beach day, so this is where we stopped~

They say Extra Mile's pizza is a crust pizza finished with 48 hours of waiting, set apart from ordinary pizza by premium Italian Caputo flour and the traditional pre-ferment method biga. The dough is slowly aged at a low temperature: crisp outside, soft inside, chewy, and nuttier the more you chew. It's the best dough, they say.

A fig tree yard near Gwangalli Beach where kids can play

Extra Mile is close to Gwangalli Beach, so a walk by the sea before or after the meal is part of the charm. Even though it's a tourist area, the restaurant is calm and you can focus on your food, and the fresh greenery of the trees outside the window made it all the more pleasant.

The fig tree with its green fruit ripening was such a lovely sight that my kid and I spent good time out in the yard too.

What can kids do while waiting for pizza at Extra Mile?

The place mats on Extra Mile's tables have space for coloring, so the wait for food never gets boring. The table setting alone is special~

Extra Mile kneads the dough and bakes the pizza only after you order, so a little waiting time is needed~ We all grabbed colored pencils for the first time in ages and had a coloring battle~

The drawings are varied so nobody has a skill advantage, haha. Creativity overflowing!!!! We colored to our heart's content and then the pizza arrived~

Does Extra Mile charge extra for half-and-half pizza?

Extra Mile charges nothing extra for half-and-half pizza. Half-and-half usually costs more, and with pasta at one flat price too, it really helped with choosing?!?

The pizza comes in one size~ About a regular size at Ijaemo Pizza? The toppings are thick, and it was just right for two people.

We ordered half non-spicy potato pizza and half taco pizza~ The taco has cilantro, so order according to your taste~

Extra Mile's potato pizza, a thumbs-up from my kid

Extra Mile's potato pizza has bacon, thin potato chips, then cheese and onion on top of the dough, plus fried potato sticks, so you get potato in a variety of textures. Hoya, who loves ham, gave it a thumbs-up!! Yes, this pizza~

The varied textures let us really enjoy the potato flavor~ Easily the best potato pizza I've ever had!!!

What does Extra Mile's white ragu pasta taste like?

Extra Mile's white ragu pasta uses an Italian-style ragu made without tomato, and the flavor of the minced pork, beef and sausage was tremendous. Hoya was fascinated by the curly look, nothing like ordinary pasta.

White ragu usually uses fusilli or rotini, but Extra Mile uses mafaldine (wide, flat ribbon noodles) that hold the sauce, so the nutty ragu spread across the mouth first.

Minced meat and mushrooms cling in the ruffles of the noodles, and the noodles and ragu get chewed together, creamy and full of chew. Hoya ate it very well~

Extra Mile interior and seating

Casual interior of Extra Mile

The inside of Extra Mile is casual and comfortable, with table seats and couple seats. There's no heavy formality, just a stylish, relaxed meal, so it was a good space for a kid or friends.

Natural wood finishes, white tables and soft wall lights added a spoonful of romance~

Even the disposable aprons are thoughtful~ The space for hanging clothes is stylishly done too, so you can really feel the hip side of Gwangalli.

The chefs at Extra Mile cook with focus in an open kitchen~ Watching the serious cooking of skilled chefs who make the pizza dough from scratch was fun too.

Who is Extra Mile in Gwangalli good for?

Extra Mile is good with a kid, and I also recommend it for get-togethers with friends or as a Gwangalli date spot!!! It felt less like a place you stop at just to fill your stomach and more like a space where eating itself is a pleasure.

The restaurant blends with Gwangalli's relaxed mood, not overbearing yet refined, so I think you can have a comfortable time with anyone. If you value fundamentals-focused flavor over flashy looks, I think you'd be happy here.

The bustle of the open kitchen builds anticipation, and even waiting at the table was happy. Extra Mile builds up the natural taste and texture of ingredients step by step, and satisfaction grew the more I ate. Unlike the tourist-trap restaurants you often find in Gwangalli, it left a pleasant afterglow thanks to good ingredients and care~ If you're heading to Gwangalli on a date, give it a try.
