Yangsan abalone restaurant: date course for two at Wando Sanghoe
In short
Wando Sanghoe Mulgeum Station Main Branch is a Korean restaurant specializing in abalone courses and abalone porridge on Gachon-ro in Mulgeum, Yangsan, Gyeongnam. On a date, the writer ordered the standard course at 30,000 won per person for two and paired it with soju, from complimentary mussel soup and boiled octopus to butter-grilled abalone, abalone sashimi, mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) and abalone innards porridge. Wando Sanghoe packs a lot into the price, making it a solid pick in Yangsan for family dinners, dates or group meals.

With prices so high these days, even a single menu item can feel like a burden when eating out. But at Wando Sanghoe Mulgeum Station Main Branch (완도상회 물금역본점) in Mulgeum, Yangsan, I got a full abalone course for ₩30,000 per person. Here's my honest review with all the details!

What are the parking and exterior like at Wando Sanghoe Mulgeum Station Main Branch?
There is a dedicated parking lot right next to the restaurant, so it's easy to visit by car.

There's also a tank at the entrance with camping-style shellfish (for grilling, steaming, plus seasonal seafood). I checked out the abalone shipped straight from Wando, and they were huge and plump, so my expectations went up!
Inside Wando Sanghoe: reservations and waiting
The interior is neat and tidy. There were plenty of seats, but most were reserved, and quite a few people who came without booking couldn't be seated and had to wait, so keep that in mind!

The pot rice (solbap) is cooked right in the restaurant, and it looked glossy and really delicious. I only ordered the standard course this time, but next visit I'm definitely trying the pot rice too!

Wando Sanghoe menu and how to order
You order through a kiosk, and there are lots of menu options. We chose two standard courses for one person each (₩30,000).

What comes in the ₩30,000 standard abalone course?
Side dishes and free mussel soup
Right after ordering, tasty-looking side dishes started arriving. They weren't just there for show; each one felt neat and carefully made.

The mussel soup comes free too, and it really soothed my stomach. Naturally, it's a great drinking snack as well.

Free boiled octopus
Then the food started coming out one dish after another.

Boiled octopus (muneo sukhoe) is included as a freebie even in the standard course, which makes it a generous lineup. It came with sesame oil sprinkled on top, so the nutty flavor filled my mouth, and it was so fresh that the texture was fantastic.

Jangjorim (soy-braised beef)
Next, the jangjorim (soy-braised beef) was salty and clean-tasting. It's a total rice thief.

Butter-grilled abalone and a glass of soju
And here comes the star, the butter-grilled abalone! It had a rich buttery aroma, with a tender texture and deep flavor. It melted in my mouth! Even kids were gobbling it up.
I also ordered soju, the drink they say is a sin when you get lost in good food, and haha, the alcohol was so sweet that day. With so many snacks, it just kept going down smoothly.

Sweet and sour salad
The salad that followed paired a sweet-and-sour dressing with crunchy vegetables, enough to bring back even a lost appetite.

Abalone sashimi
The abalone sashimi (jeonbokhoe) had a crunchy bite and top-notch freshness, so good..! It was chewy yet sweet, with a wonderful savory depth.

Icy mulhoe (cold raw fish soup)
Next was the mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) with ice floating in it. Equally tangy and refreshing, I was slurping it down without realizing. Above all, the abalone was fresh, so the textures were simply excellent!
How does the abalone offal porridge taste at Wando Sanghoe?
I finished the abalone course with offal porridge (naejangjuk) for a hearty ending. The nutty aroma hit me the moment I took a spoonful and really stirred up my appetite. Even the deep color was special, and of course it tasted amazing :)

They put in plenty of abalone and offal, so the nutty, clean savory flavor was the real deal.

I was full, but I couldn't skip the after-meal coffee!! I really enjoyed the date. Next time I plan to come back with my parents-in-law.
Verdict: was the abalone course at Wando Sanghoe Mulgeum Station Main Branch worth the price?
Overall, I was really happy with the value and the lineup at Wando Sanghoe Mulgeum Station Main Branch, an abalone porridge and course restaurant in Yangsan. I recommend it for family meals, dates and gatherings in Yangsan ^-^
