Today I'm introducing 'Samsami-ne', a sashimi restaurant near Gyeongpodae Beach in Gangneung. We got it to go and ate on a mat on one of the wooden platforms in the pine grove right by the sea — fresh, well-priced sashimi with a spoonful of romance thrown in. A truly satisfying meal ➰🖤
Where Samsami-ne Gyeongpodae Main Branch is, and what it looks like
Samsami-ne is on the main street of Gyeongpo Beach, right across from the beach and the pine grove. Since it's directly in front of Gyeongpo Beach, it's a great spot to drop into while strolling along the Gyeongpodae beach path 🌊
What is yubiki?
The number one spot for Gangneung red sea bream yubiki!!! I wondered what yubiki was — apparently it's when the skin of an unskinned fish is flash-cooked with hot water in an instant, cooking just the skin.
The inside of the restaurant wasn't crowded or chaotic either, so it looked like a nice place to eat in as well.
This Gangneung sashimi restaurant has also appeared on Channel A's 'Misikjeonpasa' and had plenty of celebrity visitors — Samsami-ne 👀
If you're planning to eat in, I'd recommend booking a reservation ahead of time.

Gyeongpodae being a tourist area, some places there charge pretty steep prices, but Samsami-ne's set menus are put together really reasonably!!

The outdoor tanks are well kept too. Fresh fish, clams, abalone and more!!! Definitely Gangneung 🐟
The 70,000 won sashimi set for two, eaten on a pine grove platform at Gyeongpo Beach
With the weather so nice these days, we decided to eat our takeout sashimi in the pine grove across the street from the restaurant, right on the beach!
There are wooden platforms just a 2-minute walk away, so we spread the mat we'd brought along on top and laid out the takeout sashimi — with the cool sea breeze blowing, it really felt like a proper picnic!!! It was still evening before sunset, so the sky kept getting prettier and prettier~~~
For ₩70,000, the value assorted sashimi comes out really generous and neatly arranged for the price.
Seasonal flounder, rockfish and other live-fish sashimi came sliced thick and hearty — even as a set for two, the portion was quite generous and satisfying!!
They also gave us two sets of wrap vegetables and sauces — lettuce, perilla leaves, garlic, chili, aged kimchi, makjang (fermented soybean paste), wasabi, vinegar-chili sauce, soy sauce.

On top of that, they give you separate rounds of sushi rice, so it's easy to make your own sushi.
They gave us two servings of seasoned vegetables too, and eating them alongside was fresh and tasty!
Icy mulhoe, the highlight of the Samsami-ne set
The crowning glory of Samsami-ne's value assorted sashimi set — the mulhoe (cold raw fish soup)...! With slush ice floating right on top?! It was super refreshing, and the sauce was spicy-sour-sweet all at once — one of the best mulhoe I've had lately! I get now why it's famous as a mulhoe spot too 👍🏻
We even threw in thin noodles and mixed it all up for a refreshing finish haha. If you ask me for a sashimi restaurant recommendation at Gyeongpo, Gangneung, Samsami-ne is the first thing that comes to mind!
Once the sun went down and it got dark, we even watched fireworks by the beach and properly enjoyed the Gangneung sea after a long while ➰👀
Is Samsami-ne worth it for sashimi takeout at Gyeongpo?
