Yangyang Korean barbecue restaurant for charcoal pork belly: Yeoyejeong

A charcoal-grilled meat spot in Yangyang’s Seo-myeon

Yeoyejeong (여여정) is tucked away in a quiet rural village. We stayed at Sol Beach Yangyang, and it was a 14-minute drive, so I highly, highly recommend it to anyone staying at Sol Beach Yangyang too!

Search “49 Ssangsolbaegi-gil, Seo-myeon, Yangyang-gun, Gangwon State” or “653-2 Sangpyeong-ri, Seo-myeon, Yangyang-gun, Gangwon State” in navigation to get there. There’s a large dedicated parking lot in front, so it’s easy to drive over.

The moment we arrived, it had this mountain-lodge feel, with meat smoke billowing from inside to outside! It’s clearly a popular Yangyang restaurant with locals and travelers alike. We arrived around 6 p.m. and waited about 15 minutes before getting in.

We waited comfortably in the car for those 15 minutes, haha.

There were so many guests when we went in, so I took photos of the dining room just before we left after our meal.

Charcoal-grilled meats and complimentary sides

At Yeoyejeong, you can have everything from pork to beef, and all of the meat is grilled over charcoal.

Each person gets a plate of complimentary sides: cabbage salad, stir-fried eggplant, white kimchi, cucumber kimchi, ssam vegetables (wrap greens), ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), and a chive-and-sesame dipping sauce for the meat.

The menu is divided into pork and beef. Pork options include marinated ribs, fresh ribs, pork tail, pork jowl, and pork belly; beef options are boneless rib meat and chuck flap. Sides to enjoy with the meat include white kimchi noodles, banquet noodles, Yeoyejeong naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles), pot rice, bomb steamed egg, kimchi stew, soybean paste stew, and rice.

There’s also a great range of lunch specials: meat pot rice, meat naengmyeon, pot-rice kimchi stew, and pot-rice galbitang (beef short-rib soup).

Pork belly and pork jowl for four

There were four of us, so we started with 3 servings of pork belly, 2 servings of pork jowl, 3 bowls of rice, naengmyeon, kimchi stew, and soybean paste stew. While we waited for the food, I looked around the restaurant—and wow, so many people had come by :)

As we chatted away, our meat arrived. We ordered 3 servings of pork belly, but it looked like 4 because it was so generous,,,!! And here’s the pork jowl. I personally really love pork jowl, and this had such a nice ratio of fat to lean meat 🥰

How can you possibly resist a drink when the meat looks this glorious,,?

I was the driver, so I wanted beer sooo badly, but Yeoyejeong has non-alcoholic beer too, so I ordered it right away,, Then we grilled the meat nicely.

Maybe because it was grilled over charcoal, it browned up so beautifully and looked completely irresistible, right? Grilling pork belly and pork jowl together makes the wait so happy,,,

The cuts came fairly thick, so we cut them into bite-size pieces, then cooked the sides until they were delicious too.

They also provided a meat tray beside the grill for the cooked pieces, so we could enjoy them more deliciously without burning them 💗

The soybean paste stew arrived while we were eating!! It was spicy and savory, an absolute must-order with meat 🚨

We grilled the mushrooms that came with it too—so happy eating them with the meat,,,🍖

We ended up ordering more pork belly

After trying both the pork belly and pork jowl, the pork belly at Yeoyejeong was seriously, genuinely insanely delicious,, So we ordered 3 more servings of pork belly and enjoyed every last bite ✌🏻 All four of us, me included, said it was one of the best meat restaurants ever and gave the owner a thumbs-up on our way out 😚
