Pork belly in Dong-gu, Daejeon: Jeonbotdae Sutbul Ogyeop
In short
Jeonbotdae Sutbul Ogyeop is a pork barbecue restaurant in Yongun-dong, Dong-gu, Daejeon. I tried a geun (600 g) set of pork belly and pork neck, doenjang sajangbap, and soybean paste stew, including its unusual seaweed, pollock roe mayo, and pickled chili pairing. Verdict: the juicy pork belly and distinctive accompaniments were the standouts.

I visited Jeonbotdae Sutbul Ogyeop (전봇대 숯불오겹), a great-value spot in Yongun-dong, Dong-gu, Daejeon. Its specialty is par-grilled ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly), and the good-value meat and special accompaniment combinations made this a memorable pork belly restaurant in Yongun-dong, Daejeon 𖦹𖦹 .ᐟ.ᐟ

Jeonbotdae Sutbul Ogyeop location
Jeonbotdae Sutbul Ogyeop, a good restaurant near Daejeon University, sits between Panam-dong and Yongun-dong, making it easy to visit from Daejeon University or Yongun Library.

Interestingly, you can make self-serve Hangang ramyeon here. It is free when you take part in the review event, so definitely try it.

Ordering pork belly and pork neck by the geun
- Pork belly + pork neck, 1 geun (600 g): ₩34,000
- Doenjang sajangbap: ₩4,000
- Soybean paste stew: ₩2,000
- Steamed rice: ₩1,000
- Zero Coke: ₩2,000
The one-geun set that lets you try pork belly and pork neck together was ₩34,000, which felt reasonably priced. The portion of meat was generous too, so I thought it would be a good place when looking for a great-value pork dinner in Dong-gu, Daejeon.

A kimchi pancake came as a side dish, and… it was totally my thing, bang 🔫 The seasoned perilla leaves and scallion salad were also seriously delicious—perfect side dishes with the meat ದ്ദി˶ー̀֊ー́ ) ✧

The pork belly I reached for more than the pork neck
I ordered the pork belly and pork neck together so I could compare the two cuts. Overall, considering the price, the meat was definitely good value.

For my personal taste, though, the pork belly was much tastier than the pork neck. It was pleasantly fatty and savory, with a juicier texture once grilled, so I kept reaching for it. The pork neck was perfectly fine too, but if I had to choose one, I would pick pork belly without question .ᐟ.ᐟ Next time, I think I would order pork belly on its own instead of the one-geun set.

As the name suggests, Jeonbotdae Sutbul Ogyeop's main menu is par-grilled ogyeopsal, so next time I would like to try it alongside the pork belly.

Seaweed, pollock roe mayo, and pickled chili combination
What I remember most from Jeonbotdae Sutbul Ogyeop was the special accompaniment served with the meat. They give you seaweed, myeongnan mayo (pollock roe mayonnaise), and gochu jangajji (pickled chili peppers). Lightly grill the seaweed, then top it with meat, myeongnan mayo, and gochu jangajji—it is such a treat .ᐟ.ᐟ The savory meat, salty-creamy mayo, and spicy-tangy pickled chilies made it very different from a typical pork belly combination.

The seaweed added its crisp, nutty flavor too, so every bite had several flavors and textures. Personally, I also liked having the myeongnan mayo and gochu jangajji directly on the meat without seaweed. The mayo gently cut through the richness while the pickled chilies refreshed the palate, so it never became tiring to eat. If you visit Jeonbotdae Sutbul Ogyeop, please try this combination at least once ૡ(・ꈊ・ૡ)˚*yeah!!

Doenjang sajangbap and soybean paste stew
After having doenjang sajangbap, the stew was so delicious that I added a separate soybean paste stew to eat with the meat. When meat alone feels just a little incomplete, soybean paste stew and rice make it a perfect full meal. It was especially nice for enjoying meat and a proper meal at dinner, so it is also a good pork dinner spot in Dong-gu, Daejeon.

With a Naver receipt review, you can receive self-serve ramyeon or fried rice for free.

Overall visit review
Jeonbotdae Sutbul Ogyeop was a great-value restaurant in Dong-gu, Daejeon, where I could have a generous amount of pork without spending too much. I tried both pork belly and pork neck, but the pork belly was much tastier for me; next time, I would order either pork belly or the restaurant's signature par-grilled ogyeopsal. Above all, wrapping meat, myeongnan mayo, and gochu jangajji in seaweed was an unusual and delicious combination that made it feel distinct from other barbecue restaurants.
