Gangneung sashimi restaurant takeaway for car camping: Minja Hoetjip

After having a blast in Sokcho with Gaeddongi and heading to Gangneung for car camping, we had to get something everyone loves: sashimi! We stopped by Minja Hoetjip (민자횟집) in Jumunjin for takeaway. To give away the ending first, the live fish sashimi was so fresh, and we were totally happy with everything from the complimentary items to the kind service!

Finding Minja Hoetjip at Jumunjin Fish Market and parking

Minja Hoetjip is inside Jumunjin Fish Market in Gangneung. It is easy to find if you park at the Jumunjin Coastal Parking Tower, but the first and second floors are pretty much always full, so just head straight to the rooftop third floor for plenty of spaces~

After parking, take the elevator down, follow the fish-shaped entrance you see right away, and walk straight for about one minute.

Just a heads-up: the prices and a few menu items differ depending on whether you eat in or order takeaway~

It was still early evening, but there were already lots of people having drinks—friends, couples, and families alike.

Takeaway is great, but this is also a wonderful spot to eat sashimi cut fresh on the spot or snow crab! Why? No table-setting charge, free spicy fish stew, and if you order snow crab, the steaming fee is free too—all of it~ at Minja Hoetjip in Jumunjin.

Some customers were taking home fresh snow crab with a great meat yield, and there were lots of assorted sashimi options at reasonable prices too~ I should come back for yellowtail in winter! Here is the in-store menu price list for reference!

Once you order, they slice up fresh live fish sashimi right away~ The fish about to make their way into our mouths~ still flopping around!

With takeaway, they also give you a one-hour discounted parking voucher, so no need to worry about parking fees~

It takes about 15 minutes by car from Jumunjin Fish Market to Sacheonjin Beach, where the view is killer and even the sound of the wind is amazing~ Just thinking about having a sashimi feast here had me giving a thumbs-up without even trying! We debated eating at the restaurant, but wanted to eat while looking at the sea, so we got takeaway—and I absolutely recommend it~ There are lots of beaches nearby, but if you want to eat somewhere quiet, head to Sacheonjin haha.

The complimentary seafood! Soy-marinated abalone, shrimp, sea squirt, and whelk—it was perfection 👏

Even the wraps that came with it were fresh~ There were not many wrap greens, so it might be good to buy some extra. The mulhoe was ₩15,000, and look how generous it was. They packed the mulhoe sauce separately in a bottle, which was convenient too~

Cheongha would have suited this somehow, but I just tried a nonalcoholic drink instead~ Cheers with Gaeddongi's favorite Orangina!! A little shaky clip to show off how bouncy and springy the live fish sashimi was. So bouncy and chewy! This is why we eat sashimi~

Gaeddongi wanted to binge-watch Toy Story again from the first movie. Eating while watching a movie made it taste even better~

It was the small size, but there was so much sashimi that piling three or more pieces onto one wrap made it even tastier~ hahaha. My son was eating like it was his first sashimi mukbang, even though he had sashimi maybe three days earlier.

Mulhoe! It was half vegetables and half sashimi. For ₩15,000, it was such a substantial portion~ Maybe because it was not too hot out, the sauce without slushy ice was just right~ The mulhoe sauce was not overly strong either, so my child really enjoyed it~

That sea-squirt aroma is love~ Dipping sea squirt full of ocean flavor in cho-gochujang (sweet-and-tangy chili vinegar sauce) was so delicious. It was complimentary, but seriously tasty~ Gaeddongi did not eat any, so I got it all to myself!

There were two plump shrimp too, so we shared them nicely, and before we knew it, we were done with nothing but empty dishes left!!
