Sokcho seafood restaurant with snow crab course and harbor views: Hanggu Hwareo

Hanggu Hwareo (항구활어), a Sokcho snow crab spot with ocean views and generous banchan (Korean side dishes), was one of my Daepo Port finds!

Hanggu Hwareo, a great Sokcho snow crab restaurant, sits on Daepo Port’s main street, so it is an easy stop when you are looking for sashimi during a Sokcho trip! Daepo Port has convenient parking, plus a fish market, sights, things to do, and Sokcho bars all gathered nearby, so I recommend adding it to your Sokcho itinerary!

Inside, Daepo Port seafood restaurant Hanggu Hwareo has a clean, comfortable, spacious dining room that works perfectly for families and groups. Pets are welcome too, so I recommend it if you are traveling with one! There is separate pet-friendly seating so other guests are not inconvenienced, just so you know!

What I really loved was that it is a seafood restaurant with ocean views 🖤 Wherever you sit inside, you get an open, unobstructed sea view! If you are looking for an ocean-view sashimi restaurant during your Sokcho trip, I totally recommend Hanggu Hwareo at Daepo Port 🖤

The sea view + sky view right in front of the restaurant! Such a lovely outdoor-stall vibe..🖤 It was so nice to enjoy that breezy, open-air atmosphere! Recommended if you are looking for an open-air sashimi spot at Sokcho Daepo Port haha.

Snow Crab C Course and a range of fresh catches

Hanggu Hwareo specializes in fresh live fish sashimi and snow crab. Along with seasonal sashimi, it had many kinds of fish and seafood, including wild rock bream, sea bass, red sea bream, and flounder sashimi. King crab, snow crab, Bakdal snow crab, and red snow crab were available as great-value set menus with sashimi and a wonderful spread of banchan!

There is an aquarium in the restaurant, so you can enjoy really fresh sashimi!

We ordered the Snow Crab C Course! It is a good portion for three people and comes with two very meaty snow crabs!

It was so delicious dipped right into the tomalleyㅠㅠ So much rich, nutty flavor!!! If you are looking for a Sokcho snow crab place with crabs full of meat, I completely recommend Hanggu Hwareo at Daepo Port!

A tableful of banchan and finishing dishes

The Hanggu Hwareo snow crab set comes with a whole table full of basic banchan! There were kimchi pancakes, takoyaki, pork cutlets, assorted seasoned vegetable sides, abalone, sea squirts, squid sashimi, mulhoe (chilled spicy raw-fish soup), and more—such a generous feast!

The snow crab course also includes sashimi, so I recommend the snow crab set if you want both sashimi and snow crab!

I asked them to make bibimbap in the crab shell haha. I absolutely recommend ordering this rich crab-shell bibimbap! It was sooo delicious ㅠㅠ Honestly, I came here to eat the crab-shell roe bibimbap…

Maeuntang (spicy fish stew) is included in the course, so it comes as standard! A fiery, satisfying finish, ahh~ The Snow Crab C Course was more than enough for the three of us to eat our fill! I recommend it if there are three of you!

Somaek (soju and beer mixed together) >_<🖤 They have free corkage here, so next time I need to bring wine or whisky haha.

In the evening, a fountain came on by the sea at Daepo Port too! The scenery was so lovely both day and night that, if I come back to Sokcho, I will return to Hanggu Hwareo—a Daepo Port sashimi restaurant where you can properly soak up the ocean and outdoor views!

From snow crab and sashimi to the varied banchan, Hanggu Hwareo was wonderful, and the staff were so kind too. With its proper ocean views as well, I recommend Hanggu Hwareo at Daepo Port if you are looking for an ocean-view sashimi restaurant in Sokcho or somewhere to enjoy snow crab and sashimi together on a Sokcho trip :)
