Sokcho rooftop bakery café with rock views: Cafe Neorae

While traveling in Sokcho, I was looking for somewhere to enjoy good food, coffee, and dessert at a relaxed pace, so I visited Cafe Neorae (카페너래). It had plenty of space, and the natural scenery and rock formations outside the windows were especially memorable, making it a nice place to visit with family too.

The address is 114 Wonamhaksapyeong-gil, Sokcho-si, Gangwon State, South Korea, and the café spans the 2nd and 3rd floors plus a 4th-floor rooftop. Hours are 09:00–18:00, with last orders at 17:30. There is private parking and high chairs, and I heard there is also a 10% discount when you dine at Yeotgoeul Sundubu.

I heard that “Neorae” is a Gangwon dialect word meaning a broad, large rock. True to its name, the rocks and natural scenery visible outside the windows were particularly striking as soon as I entered.

Looking out at Gangwon’s nature through the open windows gave the place a mood that felt a little different from an ordinary café. It was nice to sit quietly with coffee and look at the scenery, and it worked well as a brief rest stop during a trip.

Because you can enjoy the natural scenery up close, I thought it would also suit anyone looking for a café with a Ulsanbawi view.

Gangwon scenery from the rooftop

My personal favorite spot at Cafe Neorae was the rooftop. Rather than staying only inside the building, you can walk around the rooftop itself and take in the surrounding natural scenery. Feeling the breeze, soaking up the Gangwon atmosphere, and looking at the views really made it feel like I was on a trip.

It is also a great space for photos, so if the weather is nice, I would recommend heading up to the rooftop.

The three desserts I ordered

This time, I ordered the Jeju green tea Basque cheesecake, Mont Blanc, and Neorae pudding.

What did the Jeju green tea Basque cheesecake taste like?

It was my first time trying Jeju green tea Basque cheesecake, and the combination of green tea and Basque cheesecake worked much better than I expected. The gentle yet pleasantly bitter green tea flavor came together with the rich, smooth character of Basque cheesecake, and once I took a bite, I kept reaching for more.

Personally, it was one of the most impressive things I had this time. It was the kind of flavor that made it hard to stop eating.

Neorae pudding packed with banana

Neorae pudding is another menu item I really want to mention. It was filled with banana, so every bite brought sweetness from the fruit, along with the soft, nutty richness of milk for a full, generous flavor.

The soft pudding and banana went together so well that it was a dessert that instantly lifted my mood. If you visit with children, I thought it would be a nice one to share too.

The Mont Blanc caught my eye right away because of its generous size.

The bread itself had great flavor, and the portion was generous, so it suited a group visit with coffee and dessert. With a variety of bakery items available, I think people looking for a Sokcho bakery café would be satisfied too.

Why it is easy to visit with children

When visiting a café with children, amenities matter just as much as the food and atmosphere, right? Cafe Neorae has high chairs and an elevator, so it was comfortable to visit with young children.

There is also a microwave, which I thought could be helpful for families who need to prepare baby food. With its spacious setting and varied bakery menu, it was a place where family groups could visit comfortably.

Large parking lot and a post-meal discount

There is a large parking lot in front of the building, so it was easy to visit by car. And if you visit Cafe Neorae, there is a discount worth knowing about too.

I heard that if you dine at Yeotgoeul Sundubu on the first floor and bring your receipt, you can receive 10% off at the café. Planning a route that includes a meal at a good restaurant in Sokcho followed by the café makes for easy travel flow and a discount as well. Being able to enjoy a meal and a café stop in one place made it a decent addition to a travel itinerary.

A café for resting while looking at nature

Cafe Neorae was appealing not simply as a place for coffee and dessert, but because you can enjoy the nature outside the windows as well. With its spacious interior, rooftop, and surrounding natural scenery, it was a lovely place to spend unhurried time.

The Jeju green tea Basque cheesecake was my first time trying it, and I really loved the green tea and Basque combination. The Neorae pudding also stayed with me for its banana and milk flavors.

The generously sized Mont Blanc makes it a good match for bakery-menu lovers as well.

If you are looking for a Sokcho café with a relaxed, nature-filled mood or a slightly different atmosphere, it is worth a visit. I would especially recommend it to anyone who wants to pause and enjoy natural views during a Gangwon trip.

Cafe Neorae also made a good stop to pair with an itinerary traveling from Sokcho toward Goseong.
