Sokcho sashimi restaurant: ₩70,000 takeout dinner for two, Hwanggeum

Sokcho Hwanggeum Mulhoe Hoetjip (속초황금물회횟집) is a raw fish restaurant specializing in mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) and sashimi takeout at the entrance of Sokcho Jungang Market in Sokcho, Gangwon. On a Sokcho trip, the writer and her boyfriend took home a medium farmed live-fish sashimi platter for 3–4 people (₩70,000) for dinner, and the takeout pack came with everything from soy sauce and chojang (red pepper vinegar sauce) to lettuce and other wrap greens. The fish was fresh and chewy and the portion left two people full, earning Sokcho Hwanggeum Mulhoe Hoetjip a five-star would-return verdict.

Suwon café for solo laptop work and cheesecake: Café Meomureum

Café Meomureum (카페 머무름) is a homemade dessert café on the 2nd floor of the Dongsin Complex Mall in Jeongja-dong, Jangan-gu, Suwon. The writer went alone with a laptop around 3 p.m. on a holiday, worked at a study-carrel seat with a desk lamp and outlets, and had the last remaining slice of cheesecake with an iced latte. Thanks to its sofa seats and large tables, Café Meomureum works well for solo café time, studying or laptop work, and group get-togethers.
