Gwanggyo pizzeria weekend with a baby, Bolognese lasagna: The European

The European Gwanggyo (더유로피언 광교점) is a wood-fired pizza restaurant in Gwanggyo, Suwon, run by a chef formerly of the Shilla Hotel. On a sunny weekend with her husband and baby, the writer ordered the signature basil burrata cheese pizza and the Bolognese fresh-pasta lasagna, and liked the pizza enough to eat three slices, more than usual. With three floors and baby chairs, The European Gwanggyo is a solid pick for family meals and group gatherings.

Jeju Airport café in a typhoon: strawberry apple mango cake, Gluttony

Gluttony Coffee is a dessert café on Gunam-ro 2-gil in Jeju City, about a 10-minute drive from Jeju Airport. On a rainy day as a typhoon approached, the last stop of a 2-night, 3-day Jeju trip with a 9-month-old baby, the writer sat at Gluttony Coffee's floor-to-ceiling windows with a Gluttony Latte (hazelnut), a drip coffee and a strawberry apple mango cake. The moist strawberry apple mango cake and the nutty, non-acidic drip coffee made Gluttony Coffee a happy ending to the Jeju trip.

Dongtan Station BBQ for a mother-in-law's birthday: Yukmimyeongga

Yukmimyeongga is a newly opened black pork Korean BBQ restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Gwangjang Premium building near Dongtan Station in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. For her mother-in-law's birthday, the writer and her in-laws ordered the Myeongga Black Pork Set (for 3–4 people), 2 extra servings of black pork belly and kimchi stew; staff grilled the meat at the table, and the whole family loved it along with banchan (side dishes) such as the refilled kimchi pancake. Yukmimyeongga is a Dongtan Station BBQ spot worth recommending for family gatherings with elders or for hosting guests.

Dongtan Chinese restaurant after a night out: mini tangsuyuk, Bultina

Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch is a cockle jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) restaurant at Namgwangjang in Dongtan, Hwaseong. After drinking the night before, a regular couple came at a quiet weekend hour for level 1 cockle jjamppong, summer cold jjamppong and mini tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), and loved the rich, refreshing broth and generous portions. Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong is the writer's favorite hangover spot, one they crave in every season.

Dongtan nail salon for black-gray dot nails worn to Japan: Green Nail

Green Nail (그린네일) is a one-to-one, reservation-only nail, pedicure and eyelash salon on the ground floor in Bansong-dong, Dongtan, in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. The writer booked through Naver Reservation and got the monthly art design at Green Nail, black and gray magnetic gel topped with dots, and felt at ease thanks to careful removal, cuticle care and attentive service. Verdict: Green Nail's understated magnetic nails still looked great throughout a trip to Japan.

After-work gopchang hot pot & gyudong at Dongtan Station: Horangigul

Horangigul (호랑이굴) is a Japanese restaurant on the B1 floor of Lotte Department Store Dongtan at Dongtan Station in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, serving gopchang (beef small intestine) hot pot and rice bowl set meals. After work, the writer and her husband joined the Tabling waitlist around 6 pm, got a table in about 10 minutes, and shared 1 portion of beef gopchang-daechang hot pot and 1 original gyudong (beef rice bowl) set; even her picky husband promised to come back. Thanks to the rich hot pot and generous gyudong set, Horangigul Dongtan is a 200% would-return spot.

Downtowner Gwanggyojungang Station is a handmade burger restaurant near Gwanggyojungang Station in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon. The writer, a Downtowner fan for more than 7 years, ate a Kiri cream cheese chicken burger and a Downtowner set in the restaurant with her husband. She found the Kiri cream cheese chicken burger rich and nutty without being greasy, enough to replace her old favorite. For a handmade burger date in Gwanggyo, Downtowner Gwanggyojungang Station is worth recommending.

Dongtan gomtang restaurant for herbal soup and gift packing: Baekok

Baekok Dongtan is a gomtang (slow-simmered bone soup) restaurant on B1 of Lotte Department Store Dongtan in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. A regular couple orders without a word: the husband gets the pork gomtang set and the wife a single herbal gomtang, and they also checked the 7,000-won kids' gukbap (rice in soup) and gift packaging. Baekok Dongtan is the gomtang spot they keep returning to for a restorative Korean meal at Lotte Department Store Dongtan.
