Hangsangcharim Kodari Myeongga Ruwon City Branch (한상차림코다리명가 루원시티점) is a kodari and braised pollock restaurant on the 2nd floor of a commercial building at 115 Bongojae 3-ro, Seohae-gu, Incheon. On a quiet weekday visit around 8pm, the writer ordered siraegi myeongtae-jorim (braised pollock with dried radish greens), with the siraegi served on a separate plate, at the mildly spicy level, and staff deboned the fish at the table. Eating the pollock with siraegi and bean sprouts made Hangsangcharim Kodari Myeongga one of the writer's top 3 kodari restaurants.

Gimpo Korean BBQ on a rainy night, pork to octopus: Donpu The Grill

Donpu The Grill is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Janggi-dong, Gimpo, near Janggi Station, serving pork belly, pork neck, beef short rib meat and octopus together as one set. On a rainy evening, the Donpu Octopus Set came with per-person side dishes in custom-made trays, free kimchi stew rice and pudding-style steamed egg, and staff grilled the meat, all in a restaurant that was almost full. Donpu The Grill is a solid Janggi-dong pork belly spot where going from pork to beef short rib to octopus feels like a course meal.

Jonggak Korean dinner for two: octopus and bulgogi sets, Bonghyejane

Bonghyejane Jubang Jongno Tower branch (봉혜자네주방 종로타워점) is a Korean set-meal restaurant on the second basement floor of Jongno Tower, right in front of Jonggak Station in Seoul. On an early weekend evening, two diners ordered one spicy octopus stir-fry set and one charcoal-grilled beef bulgogi set to share, with pumpkin porridge to start, perilla soup with ongsimi (potato dumplings), and the sesame oil and seaweed laid out on every table. For two people at Bonghyejane Jubang, one spicy octopus set plus one sweet bulgogi set makes a hearty, well-balanced Korean meal.

Goyang soup restaurant lunch: tripe soup plus cold squid mulhoe

Jeju Eunhui-ne Haejangguk Goyang Samsong Branch is a Jeju-style hangover soup restaurant right by Starfield Goyang, on the first floor of the E-Pyeonhansesang City Samsong building. This lunch paired hot, spicy naejangtang (beef tripe soup) with the summer-only hanchi mulhoe (chilled squid soup), and the mulhoe broth was so refreshing that rice went straight into the bowl at the end. Jeju Eunhui-ne Haejangguk Goyang Samsong Branch is the pick when a group can't agree on hot food or cold.
